I may be a bit late marketing to Libraries for this Summer, but what days/times do they typically book? Weekdays? Saturday's? Mornings? Late Afternoon?
Thanks |

Libraries in my neck of the woods have morning shows, 10 or 10:30 start, or 2 PM starts.
For Saturday gigs they are usually in the morning. I love it when libraries book me for both a morning and afternoon during the same day. Can you dig it. (that's the theme in my area) Harris

Can you dig it is the national theme for 2013
as for libraries it will vary from state to state and city to city. I work a multitude of different times from morning shows to afternoon. however most in my area do week nights at 7 or 7:30 pm sam

My library shows can be any day except Sunday and any time from 10 until 7 start time. Some are flexible and others more firm on the time. Many of my shows are already booked, but some come in a bit late - so you may be able to still book some..

In my area, they are typically on weekdays during the day. Each branch will have a specific time they have events. For example, every Tuesday at 10:00 am, they have a special show. I have booked most of my library shows, but I still have a few calling me. In fact, I booked one today.
In Florida, they are calling the theme Dig Into Reading. |

In my area, libraries usually book during the week for reading programs...usually 10 or 11AM or 1 or 2PM. For special events or holidays, then they will book on weekends.

Over the years mine have been mostly Wednesday and Thursday, 2:00 to 3:30 start times. This year I've gotten a couple of weekend shows.

Its never to late to market your show!
the key is to always be getting your name in front of those you want to book you. if not this year they have your name for next year.

Thanks everyone. I just started a new f/t IT gig again. As such it takes me out of the running for shows during the day. I may just look into this for summer of '14.

Well I guess it is never too late having said that I am going on my 20th year of doing these and Once you hit April it really is to late for the summer from what I have seen. Sure you may pick a few but my libraries for the most part start booking in Oct for the following year.
But it will not heard to get in touch with them and let them know about you. Ken |

But do it anyway. Same here, they book in December and January for the summer, but you can always pick up a few late ones. Also, with libraries you want ot build familiarity, you want them to have heard of you (even if it's from your marketing stuff). They want to feel you are an established library guy. Create that impression - don't lie, just give the impression you are experienced and leave it vague enough for them put it together in their own minds.

I've never gone after that market but I want to now. I did book 4 shows for one library system though. I did it by walking into the kids section with my 2 kids and casually chatting with the librarian. My son helped too by being himself and talking about how he's my assistant (he's not, but she thought he was cute and that helped her remember me and think of me). So the moral is, if you go in person, bring your kids, and if you don't have kids, rent some.
Obviously everyone's mileage may vary, but how many gigs might a good performer get from doing a librarian showcase versus regular marketing? In Oregon, the shows are only every 2 years, so I can't do it till next year. Is that common, or do most states do showcases every year?
