Hey there,
My name is Steven and I am from the Southern United States where I host a radio show (music + talk) and I have been a practitioner of our specific art for the better part of 2 decades. I am by no means a bonafide professional (hence why I got a Communications degree) however, I am far from an amateur and can hold my own in matters of close up magic and have supplemented my yearly income with the skills that I have. I learned my first card effect from my grandmother when I was the age of 12, which was the 21 Card Trick (4 rows, 7 cards in each etc....) and became hooked and started taking books from the library learning elementary card routines for a few months and then on my 13th birthday I received Hugard & Braue's Expert Card Technique: Close-Up Table Magic book and studied and practiced religiously after school (sometimes during school and getting my deck taken away until last bell) and over the summer, some 23 years ago. The thing I love most about this art form is that no matter how long you have been doing it, you'll never learn or master "everything" and that keeps it exciting and fresh. Looking forward to conversing with you all and to learn more. Thanks for having me. Sincerely, -- Steven Postscript: I've recently taken an interest in Playing Card collecting, and while my current collection is modest at best I have really become excited about it and I am getting in some new decks in the next several days to add to it and would be happy to discuss this with others who are into the same. Thank you so much Mary, and I've been known to run a swindle with a thumblerig routine here or there but all good-natured and never for actual money.
Excellent! Thank you for the heads up on the sub-forum, going to check it out now. -- Steven |
