Mark Raffles book if you can find it, I have a copy but it was limited to 500 copies. Also theatrical pickpocketing I think you can find it at lybrary.com but for me nothing beats the Raffles Book.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

Tom! There is a bit more to the pick pocket act, than perhaps you realize. (Like the proverbial ice berg, there is more under the surface than most folks realize.)
I did pp in the club act, years ago, --I even 'horsed' for Dominique in Paris! There are several books 'out' and they are good. They can give you technical 'stuff', but, that's only a small part of it. How much actual experience performing, have you had? How old are you? What sort of performing experience have you had? ETC.? You may PM me if you like. (We don't discuss 'the real work' in this forum).

The New Yorker just had a fascinating article on Vegas pickpocket Apollo Robbins:
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2013/......ct_green In the article there are several referenced books; but, as Dick mentions above, the act of pickpocketing is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. |

I would very much like to learn pick-pocketing to and could see some uses of it but is it worth the risk of trying to use this on the street and having possible legal trouble?

You have raised the right question, Shai! Busking is difficult enough in some areas where anything that appears to be gambling such as three card monte or tossing the broads in carny argot, 3 shell games, pricking the garter, etc) can result in arrests. Picking pockets can be an extremely entertaining act, indoors in a 'respectable' situation.
The young man who started this thread, apparently has very little experience. I explained a few things in my post, above. I inferred from his post, that, instead of doing his own research, he wanted to pick some brains. We, old geezers, had to do our own research, and break into this business the hard way. I have mentored a 'few' young fellows. Several of them are now well qualified pro's. They are working steadily. One has just been invited to work the MAGIC Magazine convention in Vegas. He has the talent, he just needed some guidance along the way. So, I'm not handing out free lessons in pickpocketing. There are plenty of resources available. "Initiative", I think is the operative word, if one wishes to break in to this business.

BTW, it looks easy, especially when demonstrated on a morning show for the ladies, but to actually do it, takes a big set of cojones.

You'd be best off starting with "put-pocketing" instead. If you get caught sneaking a card into someone's pocket, that's fine. Getting caught stealing their wallet is something else. Try body loading coin routines (coin to shoulder) first to get used to the contact side of it.
