Ok guys.. I really need your help...
my Mackie SRM150 a most terrific perfect size and performing show ampliphier is showing its maybe 3 or 4 year age... I am getting the sound out of it but it isn't the strongest or the loudest anymore... do I retire it to the Mackie Mortuary (the name of a real funeral home where I live) or is there something inside that a technician can look into to bring it back to its strength... am off to a show this morning with half power.. hopefully the crowd is thinned some or is less than 50, I just don't have the loudness no matter how I set the setting and have input from a laptop and all those settings are the loudest coming out. let me know your instant ideas or guidance if you have any thoughts Much appreciated... I'm surprised you are having problems with your SRM150. They are real work horses. I have repaired a few. I would have a tech take a look at it. I know that it is only a $250.00 piece of equipment but it may be something simple and not to expensive to repair.

I agree with Eldon. Mackie equipment is usually very reliable. Have you checked your cables? Or contacted the manufacturer? Here's a link to the manual for your unit:

"Mackie is back in town!!!!" to quote a song or two..
to the guys above who tried to help... was losing faith there for a bit as this now engineering problem seemed at first out of reach ... went to large large AV firm in town who Mackie cited who doesn't really work on or sell mackies...but the eccentric one old technician there looked over it and said for the firm's $150 minimum it looks like they can't help within my limits.. but this ol guy said he'd call Mackie ... a few days went by and said to let him look at it again but at his house (he works on the side.. and don't you know I am memorable as I did a great trick on the way out at the first meeting)... well he fixed it and ...easily.. not that my problems should at any time be yours.. but here is the take aways. Mackie srm 150 is as I had always thought a workhorse .. a tough unit. this one at half the power and an "older unit" had too large connectors on the circuit board and one of them got "away".... he soldered away... You and I could never have fixed this but with the right guy you can renew your unconditional dependence on the thing...thanks to the guys above for the encouragement. Mackie is really a great unit. I can tell you without perfect connections you could experience half the output when half the power gets to the amp. an unusual disease for these kind of things but for the lucky or unlucky few of us .. it can happen. we are all one man shops trying to do it all our selves let alone the performing but on occasion it is ok to get help and if you endear yourself to the right guy help might not cost you too much and get you a few other shows later on in the year. I am celebrating 50 years in magic this year and 3 years ago after thinking about it for 3 years before that I added music to a few pieces in the act and it has leveraged up the emotional appeal 100 fold....so if the music comes out at half power for some unexpected reason it is worth it to get it at full throttle and dependably so that you don't have to again talk your way through the whole show. thanks again guys.. I did what you said and in this case it worked. Marty |

Long story, but a guy grabbed my SRM 150 and threw it over a fence once and it still works. Mackie used my story for a testimonial.
I love my SRM 150 and bought it when it was $300.00.

I just bought one of these for a couple of smaller gigs I have coming up. I'm really impressed, but I have one question I'm hoping you guys can help me with.
The one I got was a Demo Model. (I NEVER buy DEMO models. Ever. But they didn't have one in the box, and one of the gigs I need it for is this weekend, so I thought I'd buy it and if it didn't work out, I could return it as they promised. I called several other stores, but no one else had one either.) So, here is my question. It has a hiss. I fiddled with the master and the mic in, and I can bring it down to a bearable level, but it is still there. If I turn the Master all the way up, the hiss is very very loud. But at about 1/2 volume, and the mic at 1/2 volume, it's there but I can live with it. I hit the Phantom Power button, and it stops for a second, and then comes back. So, for all you guys who have one...do they hiss? Is that just this unit? Is so, I'll take this one back and order one online. Other than that, I love this little thing and will probably also use it as a monitor off of my Passport 300 for the larger gigs.

It should not hiss. I never turn up the master more than half way. Are you using a wireless mike? Some times the mike unit picks up strange noises. I had that issue and I changed channels.

I am using a wireless Shure handheld.
I used it for two of my smaller gigs last weekend, and the hiss wasn't so noticiable as to be a problem. Perhaps it just seemed loud while I was testing it. But definitely a bit of hiss over 50% master. (But even at 50%, it still seemed plenty loud for what I need it for.) Still, I'm wondering if I should swap it out for a new one. (Or by the Behringer B205D, which is a clone of it.) When you turn yours on, without plugging anything into it, is it perfectly silent, or is does it hiss? Thanks for the info, btw!

If you have your levels up and nothing connected you will hear a hiss. If your levels are down check to see if your highs are cranked up.
