The video link below shows my presentation for a marvelous effect called Photo Prediction. It incorporates random chance and spectator choices to arrive at an outcome that could not have been predicted--but it is!
My purpose in linking to this video is two-fold. First, it shows one of the more exotic possibilities with an app like this one. Second, this is the first part of a series of blog posts discussing how to make optimal use of multiple outs via a binary system. In the case of Photo Prediction there are 120 outs and for someone like myself that appreciates the elegance of binary mathematics that is far too few! For most people though, 120 is too many because, as several magicians have expressed to me, "How in the world can I remember all of the possible combinations?!?" Enter multiple out via binary counting. This is a simple way to use hundreds, or even thousands, of multiple outs which only requires the ability to add simple sets of numbers together. Many magicians are unfamiliar with this technique so I thought I'd create a multi-part study on understanding and using these binary systems to create your own effects. http://www.magicbookreport.com/2013/05/p......-part-1/

Hi Steven................. WOW that was freaky watching that........... I am doing the exact same routine!!!! nearly.
I use the three coins like you , I use the exact same noughts and crosses prediction. The only difference is the final coin...... I use an effect that Eugene Burger showed me ( I think originally a Phil Goldstein effect ), sorry I have forgotten the name. Basically three imagined coins, the spectator eliminates two of them and tosses the third and states whether it lands heads or tales side up. Obviously great minds do think alike |

That's awesome! I have another prediction with tic-tac-toe (a.k.a. noughts and crosses) and a freely thought of playing card. There really is no limit to the types of things you can predict.
The Burger effect was on the Exploring Magical Presentations DVD, I believe, but as always could be mistaken. You're right... great minds do think alike

Hi Steven,
I LOVE the Tic-Tac-Toe prediction. That is sooo cool. I really wonder how many outs you have to have to cover all possibilites. thank you for sharing that with us. Greg Rostami |

Hi Steven ,
A very nice effect using the outs . You could perhaps link the effects together . Have a piece of paper with the noughts and crosses board drawn upon it and above the aboard the title - tic tac toe . This ensures the rotation of the board is only one way. The spectator is given 3 coins . Spectator is told he is going to place the coins on the board in a winning line of his choice. The performer can show various winning lines .. There are 8 I think . Spectator asked to spin a coin and then place it on the board . This is repeated two more time and a winning line is formed The phone is opened and there is a picture of a board with a single winning line on the board, matching the spectators . Zooming in each coin is also predicted to show the correct heads/tails rotation . I think there are enough outs to cover the options ... As this is all off the top of my head . Ideally if I had enough outs , I'd ask the spectator to draw a circle around one of the coins on the board and you also predict which coin is circled . Andy |

WOW! Amazing, Steven!
I love to see how many things you can do with PhotoPrediction. I'm looking forward for the next part of this study! The idea of Tic-Tac-Toe is brilliant! And other variables together make the prediction even more incredible! Thank you so much for sharing that with us! Loved! All my best, Gui |

Awesome job! Very confidant and smooth with the delivery, I felt like I was watching a class.
I've been concerned with a system for correlating all the outs for a variety of presentations. Currently working on one for any named country (I know there's more than 120 countries but 120 should cover the vast majority of commonly named countries lol). There are also so many apps now I'm worried about confusing tricks and pushing the wrong "keys". I'd love to see what you do with ipredict pro or the new Handz off app. |

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody!
Greg, the three quarters, tic-tac-toe (in correct orientation), and the penny can all be done in 64 outs. Andy, I love the idea of using the quarters to construct the winning row! It has a better sense of continuity but I also like the apparently huge number of permutations in the actual tic-tac-toe game. Also, I wouldn't be able to use the final penny. In any event, I'll give it a real-world test drive and see how it plays. Great idea. Gui, thank me? No man, thank YOU! Love the app. Thanks, Dynamix! I've got a couple ideas for iPredict Pro that I'm still kicking around in my head. There's one routine I'm still working out a few bits but once I have it down it's going to be an absolute killer. All of Greg's stuff is great. (Gui isn't the only one making awesome apps.) I didn't realize Handz off had been released yet. There's yet another app to lighten my wallet. In fact, I've started my 2nd DVD on magic and mentalism with smart phones. Where's the first DVD you ask? Well, due to circumstances beyond my control I had to scrap the project last year after we had finished shooting. Cost me a fortune. I'm now finalizing the effects that will be included on the new DVD and am working on full presentations to go along with them. Reshooting should start by the end of summer. That's a ways off, though. When the second blog entry on this is out I'll post back here to keep from cluttering up the forum.

Part 2 has just been posted. This section is focused on converting binary to decimal and vice-versa. Part 3 coming soon...

Very nice explanation, Steven!
That will be very useful! I'm looking forward for the part 3! My best, Gui |

Part 3 is online and available. Hopefully this will not only help with Photo Prediction, but any app that allows for a series of multiple outs. Tele-foto comes to mind as an app that could make use of this type methodology, but there are many out there.

Hi, Steven!!
Wow! Awesome!! Really interesting explanation, and the tic-tac-toe method is genious!! It's really interesting how binary system can be used for outs that look complexes. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! For sure it will help us to create many new ideas using apps like PhotoPrediction! Thank you again!! All my best, Gui |
