Just wondering how the career is going? This post is several years old so I figure that you are either doing great or out of the biz. I'm curious to know which.
Either way best of luck to you. You seem like a great young man.

Good for you Vanished Zauberer , I'm glad to hear that your doing shows.
I started doing shows at a young age as well (10yrs old). I remember how tough it is. theres a lot of good post up here. I didn't get a chance to read them all. but I did read most of them. first I would charge about 75$ per hour ( to start ) and try to pick up basic balloon animals ... kids love that . and if you do a show and the parents are not there to see it. thay will see the kids playing with the balloons and having a good time . then they know you did a good job and refer you to others. second. make a demo dvd. at school or go in a mall and it it for random people. show this demo to your clients. and do something for them face to face. this will help get your price and show them what there paying for. I hope this helps. if you have any questions just pm me . or I'll try to check on this post again. good luck. |

I started with birthday parties and retirement homes when I was 16, then later the referrals came flying in. But I was also the legal age to work. I got $20 at first, then went up to $50, then $75, that was pretty good for 19 years ago. Yeah as someone said most adults do not take kids seriously so it takes time. Look for venues that you can do without too much of a hassle. Check out my essay I wrote years ago about performing for Retirement Homes. http://www.penguinmagic.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?t=133665
You can also perform at charity events to obtain exposure. It gets easier as you get older, and more people will respect and take you seriously. Just use this time to prep for the future as you have a very long time to decide what you are going to do. I just noticed this post is pretty old, most kids would have passed through the magic phase by now and have quit. Let's hope you are not another statistic.
The great trouble with magicians is the fact that they believe when they have bought a certain trick or piece of apparatus, and know the method or procedure, that they are full-fledged mystifiers. -- Harry Houdini

Vanished Zauberer : I also agree with sirbrad.
when your doing Retirement Homes and charity events, ask then to sent you a thank you letter. and see if they mind if someone comes to film you. this is also good to show you clients. and when doing these events it will also give you experience and better your shows. and its a good way to try some new stuff. |
