Hello I am a magician from Northern Ireland (UK)
I have various tricks-sponge balls, uday ding dong, kappa fire wallet, nut of bolt etc etc. I know the magicians on here are world renound with years of experience. I was really hoping one of yous could help me. I am booked to do entertainment for the band the prodigy, actor Daniel day Lewis and many more at the annual northwest 200 this Saturday. There will be real big wigs there and sponsors. I was hoping I could get some advice on how to open. I normally walk up to a table and say, " do you want to see a trick? This is often muffled and they are not really interested. I was hoping if there was any tips on good combo starters, jokes, opening liners etc. Or tips on how to make tricks last longer. Just something that will make me not look like a prat and a bit more professional. Thanks foe taking the time to read this and please keep doing what yous do! You could start with a command like "hey, look at this!" or
you could start with a question: "Have you ever seen(whatever you're doing) before?" or you could just introduce yourself and start performing. I'm not exactly sure if these are great ideas, but It's all I can think of. |

This may be a little late but...
In "The Manchurian Approach" Anthony Jaquin teaches how to do impromptu hypnosis and part of that is approaching people in the kind of situation you described. He suggests a technique that was popularized by someone who taught "speed seduction". It has 3 parts... (1) Compliment. It can be anything really that applies to the group in question. An example he gave was walking up to a table where people are laughing and saying, "Well, this seems to be the fun table!" (2) Introduction. example "Hi I'm Anthony and I'm a hypnotist" (3) Question: example "Has anyone here been hypnotized before?" Im sure you could adapt it for your situation.
It is always darkest just before you are eaten by a grue.

Get a plate with a coupole on top of it, and ask "the chicken tikka masala, who ordered the chicken masala?" No one should respond. Say "No one? good!" remove the coupole, and show that you have two sponge balls in the dish. Start your routine.
This kind of opener was suggested and used by Thomas Hierling in his book. P! |

Also a bit late, if you can perform a trick that relates to what is happening when you walk over, you could start like that.
