Beautiful!
Rick was an excellent and meticulous craftsman and artist.

I know that guy!
There are pictures of him in the Mike Brose book on figure building. That head is loaded and not in the intoxicated way. Congrats Donald! |

That's right, I forgot he did have pictures of that figure in there. This one was a figure Rick made for his son.

He's a very expressive figure. You'll be able to do a lot with that!

Thanks for the great look inside.
I did not realize it was basswood until I saw these pics. |

Jim,
I was surprised too. I thought it was fiberglass. While Rick did make figures out of fiberglass, he learned figure making with Chuck Jackson who did carve. |

Actually, his head shells were cast with magic sculpt and backed with figerglass (if memory serves me correctly).

What a beauty! I'm going to guess that this was perhaps a Jackson basswood head that Rick put his finishing touches on (mechanics, paint, etc)? Amazing work!

I should have thought of that, that would explain it. I was actually surprised when Donald said, and showed, that it was wood. I never knew Rick to make any figures that weren't what I previously described and he never talked about doing any kind woodcarving. He had some carving knives, (I know because I have them now) he wanted to try doing some carving, but I knew he hadn't done anything in the way of figure carving. So this figure is actually probably a Jackson/Price.

Price's son could probably tell you, I suppose.

Jackson/Price was my very first thought because I knew also, like David said, That Rick never made wood carved figures. Also the mouth palate is unquestionably a Jackson palate. So I think Donald has scored a one of a kind for sure!!
