I currently just bought a new iMac OS X, and plan to use it as a default DVD player for the magic instructional courses I recently purchased. I found an interest in a few products exclusively sold in the UK, and was wondering if the Region 2 (PAL) fomatted DVD's would function properly on this computer. If anyone can offer any help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Probably No in my opinion. There are always other ways, but way too complicated.

You can bypass the region check on windows based pcs using a specific piece of software.
I have seen it in action at a recent computer fair. I don't know if it's legal though, but the possibility exists. |

I don't know of any magic DVD that has region coding - all I've ever seen are region free. Your computer should be perfectly happy playing PAL or NTSC, it makes no difference to dvd players, just VHS.

Region coding are one thing and PAL or NTSC format is another issue. They shouldn't be compared.
If you buy a regionfree (allregions) DVD in PAL format, you probably want be able to watch it in the USA. |

Most magic DVD's are going to be region free - if these are recorded in PAL format (unlikely as PAL and NTSC are video tape formats) then they might have a problem on US TV's - but will not have a problem on a computer.
I have brought quite a few magic DVD's from the UK and the US and all have worked on my DVD player and computer. Hope this helps. Tom |

PAL and NTSC having nothing to do with tape or disc. They are video standards and video is used on dvds. So you can have a DVD that is region free, playable on all dvd players and computers, but it will either have the video in PAL or NTSC. PAL video on the dvd is unlikely to work on US televisions, and NTSC video on the dvd may cause the picture to be black & white only, or worse have no picture on UK televisions. PAL and NTSC should both be fine on your new mac. |
