I don't know what made me think of this, but the thought came to mind - I wonder if there's a reason why headsticks are round. Was it just because that's what was easily available when people started making figures, or was there a specific reason.
I remember owning a couple of Bill Andersen heads and those had square headsticks. The didn't feel bad or uncomfortable, they were as easily usable as any round headstick I've used. Of course, I'm sure we can only speculate on this, I doubt there's anything to tell us for sure "why".

Maybe , (and I am not being a smart alec )beacause it easier to drill a round hole than a square one in the dummys neck.
I agree Dave ,a square stick seems just as usable as a round one and a square headstick in my opiniion would be easier to install levers in. |

Could be possibly why Jim, it's a as good a guess as any I could come up with.
I remember what made me think of it - I was doing some cleaning up in the garage, and spotted a very long piece of square wood (over 6') I acquired, really nice quality wood, and a good size for using for a headstick. I may use it still for that just to be different.
