I want to get started in stage illusions. I'm looking for about 5 strong seldom seen illusions where the method used is not obvious to the audience when performed well.
I want them to look nice, but be inexpensive. I'm on a $1,000 budget No familiar girl in box concepts, etc. I'm working on a version of Sub Trunk. That's about all I have. So, basically, 5 strong unique deceptive illusions that are easy and inexpensive builds. An opener -- an appearance, a vanish, an escape, and two others. Thanks in advance. |

Here are some of the plans that interested me based on the browsing on the Paul Osborne site, 1. Banner Nest of Boxes... For a reappearance after a good vanish 2. Blammo Box 3. Boudoir of a Dancing Girl 4. Buzz Saw -- Pendulum 5. Cargo Net 6. De kolta chair 7. Keyed Up Sub Trunk 8. Super Suspension 9. New Asrah 10. Executioner's Dream |

I don't own it but I was reading the description for Andrew mayne solo x where it says you can build a walking through mirror effect for under 100 pounds which sounds good

When I was a teenager I got a little pamphlet called "Victory Cartons" that showed how to make a number of nice stage illusions from cardboard boxes. Any of them could probably be adapted for plywood. (One of my favorite was a person appearance from two folded cardboard boxes nested together. I recently saw the principle rebuilt as folding fabric cubes.)

You can float a styrofoam ball across the stage for just a few dollars. Better spend a lot of time practicing though. I also would recommend "Victory Cartons"
You can do a person switch with just a blanket and a couple of assistants, just wrap 'em up standing. There's also some very impressive and cheap rope escapes. Buy a third hand and you can do all kinds of stuff, including walking through a solid object. Jim |

Just my opinion based on my own experience: start with illusions that do not require plans and building. Not every illusion is performed inside a box. You can produce your assistant from a borrowed hat, for example, if you produce a few silks, then the silks get larger and larger. Finally you have to put the hat on the floor (or a small portable step) to pull a six foot silk from the hat...but what's that under the silk? Your assistant is seen stepping out of the hat as you whip the silk away. Illusions like that will give you basic principles of creating real illusions in natural surroundings.

Mark Wilson's magic course teaches illusions such as tip over trunk and the blanket described above. I've used both including the blanket for a big oil company show turning a vp into an entertainer.

Have also seen a person produced from behind two giant (wheeled) playing cards. You have to practice to get the timing exact.
