Hi!
I'm Jim from Torrance. Once a member of the Castle, I have been a casual amateur since age 12 (and I'm almost 60). I like close-up, & rarely perform, but I'm thinking about getting back into practicing. Any West-coasters who don't know Steve at Grand Illusions in Sacramento - you should. Steve is a customer-service oriented magic shop owner - a shop that has lasted through the years when many others have failed. Anyone remember The Magic Dungeon Society? I was a non-member in the 70's. How about Floyd Baldwin? He mentored me and coached me for my Castle audition. James Crumpton? I worked with him with the IAM (International Assoc. of Magicians). That club met at Alpine Village, off the 110. Ironically, over 35 years later, I live not too far from Alpine Village, and pass it on the freeway frequently. For any young persons who have read this far, you are very blessed to have the internet! I had to find out which tricks were worth a hoot with my allowance money by buying the bad ones with the good ones. That was back in the days when Disneyland & Knott's Berry Farm had the best magic shops South of Hollywood (and the Hollywood shops were pretty sleezey). OK, enough rambling! God bless all of you and the hobby or profession that we love. Jim |

Welcome jimmyjohn123,
Mary Mowder here. We've probably met but I can't tell from your user name. I agree about Steve Johnson. He is a real asset to our local Magic community. Don and Leora (Steve's Parents) make wonderful "Fat Free" cookies for all the lectures. Steve's Summer Lecture series serves as an anchor for Many lecture tours in California, which is a service to the lecturers and the attending Magicians throughout California. I've met James Crumpton a few times, Tom and I bought some great used Magic from him in the past. I'll see you in "Table hoppers & party strollers". -Mary Mowder |
