The scary thing is I said the same thing about Grilli six years ago, shows what I know. But really, Valverde must go. Makes me feel better just saying it.

He's gone, Valverde has been designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers.

Poppa gave up six homers in limited 9th inning appearances this year, more than he gave up in entire seasons previously. Gave up lead off walks and a zillion hits, hit batters, let base runners steal- all while his velocity went down. His normal "out" was a fly ball to the warning track.
Now the Tigers are finally "Leyland proof" from finally using him further. I doubt if any other teams in the majors will even pick up Leyland's former first choice from only a few days ago to close out a 2 run lead game vs. Kansas City. The Detroit Tigers still have much work to do, or will end up eventually get bombed in the playoffs (like what happened in Boston last night) if they manage to hold onto their weak Division lead. Go Tigers! |

What scares me is that with my Pirates doing well this year, our ownership might make the mistake of picking up Valverde in September if we're still in the hunt. Who knows though? Maybe Valverde will do better under another manager.
I posted elsewhere that I hope the Tigers hang in there. I would love a Pittsburgh and Detroit World Series - it's been since 1909 after all! Having lived in Toledo for nine years, I have come to know a lot of Tigers fans and they are great baseball fans. So, go Tigers!! |

The Pirates picking up Valverde would be a blessing, playing the way he is right now. Just knwocking out another team to make way for the Reds!

So it's not a fictional country then?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
