I remember it well, I can't believe it's 50 years ago.

A shining moment for Cooper...classy guy, and a game fighter. With a big left hook! He was both the British Empire and European heavyweight champion. He was a top-5 world class fighter at his peak for a few years, and had a win over Zora Folley, who hit as high as #3 in the annual Ring Magazine rankings shortly thereafter.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

I remember watching a video (I believe on YouTube) of "This is Your Life- Muhammed Ali" that was taped in England, in which Henry Cooper was one of the surprise guests. You could see that Ali genuinely liked and respected Cooper. He was an excellent heavyweight and their fight was a good one.

He had a twin brother and they used to say he had thin skin because of that and so cut easily. They had a fruit veg shop in London. I think the skin thing was just what people used to say but he did get cut badly in his fights and some looked horrible but I don't think it was as bad as it looked.

Henry's Hammer was lethal. I believe this was the fight where Ali couldn't come out for the next round because he was still hurt from the left hook so his corner team slashed his glove so that ali could have more time to recover. Fully recovered, Ali danced around and eventually beat Cooper. But it was Coopers fight.

I met Henry at Wembley in 1991.
A big smile on his face and a perfect gentleman.
