Hi ive just moved to melbourne. Im looking for a mentor/training in magic and any fellow enthusiasts to meet as I don't know anyone in Melbourne, let alone anyone interested in magic.. Im a beginner and want to meet someone experienced to guide me that lives in Melbourne. I moved here to learn and meet people as Perth had nothing really.
thanks guys and gals!!

Welcome to rhe big smoke. A good place to begin is http://www.mrtricks.com.au - that site is always updated with local magic events, and magic club information.
Your best bet is to join a club, they have plenty of professionals as well as hobbyists.

Also while you still have a chance, the Melbourne magic festival is on for another week at the Northcote town hall

Thanks guys. a lot of help! I will checkout some of the clubs. seems a bit daunting joining a club as I'm a newbie. I read and read and try practice but I can see that nothing can beat a mentor when starting out. Is it hard to join a club? One said to go to a few meetings to be considered for membership, others by invite and others a demonstration is required before being considered. I really really want to dive into learning magic the best and smartest way. Its hard not knowing a single person interested in learning magic so I have no one to talk about it without ruining it for them! thanks guys

Hi Sid,

There is an IBM ring (club) you can contact. They have a monthly meeting and I'm sure would be glad to meet you and have you visit their club. Then you can meet others and find people willing to help you. As for joining a club, don't let that bother you. They know a lot of people are NOT professionals and do this as a hobby. Main thing is to just have fun. Here is their contact info.

Mark.

G'day Sid

I remembered reading your description of your developing performance character as being - "Imagine you mixed jack sparrow and heath ledgers joker with a touch of mad hatter and a large pinch of strange" - I expect in Melbourne you will come across plenty of encouragement as you put this together.

All the best on the journey.
