The appearing paycheck is best as an opener, followed by the disappearing magician

Generally when I close a show, I close pretty strong. As much as I love performing, I think I'd like to leave after I close strong. I can't fathom following the Losander table with anything weaker. Call me crazy, but when I'm gone I believe the thing they will remember most is the last thing they saw. I'm just not sure if I'd want it to be like spongeballs. As much as I love them, I feel it's a builder, not a finale.

When I performed with a rabbit I would always hang around a bit and take pictures and let the kids and or adults pet "Scoot" but I've never done an encore. Wanna see more magic? Hire me again, I'll bring a fresh routine with me next time That being said, sometimes I will start with a little close up, walking through the crowd, or audience if they're sitting. Depending on the venue or party type a little cabaret magic could be in store too.

I'm sorry to not be super helpful, but the first few posts here are just hilarious.
Actually, I would go along with Wravyn on this one--unless it's a stage show, I won't do an encore. Maybe my next performance will be the "encore". |

A magical performance is somewhat different than a musical concert. In a musical concert (and I am speaking in very general terms), most songs are performed as a stand alone piece of entertainment. Each song is basically it's own story. Of course, many performers put together medleys that follow some type of theme. but for the most part, when a musician sings or plays a song, the song is it's own self contained story. Musical theater is different. There is a plot line to follow, and the entire performance tells either a large story of collection of smaller related stories. Now this is only my opinion, but I feel that a magical performance should also try to follow some type of plot line as well. If done so successfully, then all of the conflicts and sub plots introduced during the performance should be resolved in the final act. leading to an emotionally satisfying conclusion. If that is accomplished, an encore would be anti climactic.

I always have one more in my back pocket for these occasions. At a restaurant gig, I may return after dinner and do chop cup, or bring a close up pad and do a longer card routine. This is usually only if the place is not very busy and they really enjoyed me. At the bar, when someone asks for one more, since chop cup is part of my normal set, I usually do a multiple selection with everyone at the bar....(10-15 cards) or signed card folded in the mouth. This destroys the whole deck and I can't do any more.
