Hi All,
I'm looking for a source for custom playing cards for a gig next month. A quick Google search turned up a service by Zazzle that uses Bikes with no minimum. I would only need about 2 decks. I also see that Bicycle itself offers a custom service, although I don't know if they would accept such a tiny order. Does anyone have any experience with customized decks, the above services or others? I expect to get promo art from the company and would like to be able to just slap it on the card. Thanks in advance for any advice. Regards, Damian |

One simple technique would be to use clear labels from Avery and print the labels with an ink jet

I used twice makeplayingcards.com, and I am satisfied with the service.

So perhaps they have a deal to work together. The customized image on the back is very nice. The size of the cards APPEAR to be the exact same as every other poker-sized Bicycle deck your or I have had, however, putting a regular bike up against these shows that these are a fraction of an inch larger all the way around. This allows you to insert any regular Bike card in the customized Zazzle Deck and it instantly turns the regular card into a short card without any trimming. Likewise, putting one of these into a regular deck makes it a long card. You can figure out where to go from there with that information! The printed corner indices and the Spades, Hearts, Clubs & Diamonds are slightly smaller than regular Bikes. You may notice the size difference. Your spectators probably won't. You'll only see it for sure when you hold two matching cards side by side. The Ace of Spades says "Personalized" under the word Bicycle, otherwise it looks the same. The deck I got had a slightly different "feel" to it. I had a difficult time getting it to faro right out of the box, but they otherwise handle fine. If the image you want to put on the back would create a one-way back design, keep that in mind for any effects where the top two cards (DL) may show a discrepancy in the orientation of the two cards. Due to the fact that they have to customize these, it takes a bit longer than arrive than items already in stock. So if you are going to get a deck, order soon.

Thanks, Chris, that's very helpful. I'd just as soon stay with Bikes, given a choice. Good to know about the size discrepancy. I'm planning a Dream Card effect so it's important the cards are the same. Perhaps I'll ask them to send me a couple decks with standard backs, if they can, to insure the stranger card isn't noticeable if the spec is holding the deck.
Thanks pablonius and gadfly for your suggestions, as well. Regards, Damian |

Otherwise, the original image on the back of the card would be visible on all non-printed areas of the clear label. And the added thickness of 52 labels stuck on the back of 52 cards would cause the deck to be much thicker than usual.

Clear labels are not a good idea. Even if you are using very thin labels they will add quite a bit to the thickness of the entire deck, unless you are talking about slapping a label on the box. Also, adding a label to the back of 52 cards is one thing, but doing so for multiple decks as give aways would be an unimaginable hassle. There are several companies that will print custom card back designs on multiple decks, but a minimum order for quality cards is pretty large. Try looking for playing card companies in Las Vegas.
