Is anyone currently making/selling Bicycle double-back cards with colors that exactly match current standard decks? I have several decks of Bike gaffs from 15-20 years ago and the colors are slightly paler than current cards.
I need a few red/red and red/blue that match current "standard" decks. Any suggestions on where to buy? I know they're available on Amazon but I'm afraid I'll get incorrect colors again. Thanks in advance! Ron |

Since bicycle stopped making gaff cards I doubt you'll find some. You can make these up with the new 809 Mandolin backs.

http://www.ellusionist.com/bicycle-gaff-deck.html red back out of stock right now but you might call them and see if the cards you need are in the blue deck. A great gaff to have either way though.
You could PM CardMaker and he could help you out too.

Bicycle still makes double-back cards in all 3 variations: red-red, blue-blue, and blue-red. The double-backed cards were not affected by Bicycle's stricter regulations regarding gaff cards. Since there is no modification to the copyrighted artwork on double-backed cards, they are still produced.

Thanks for the replies. Regarding the Ellusionist gaff pack, I have one and it has no double-back cards with standard Bicycle backs.
The decks I already have are genuine Bicycle cards and do not even match the colors of standard Bike decks from that era. Ron |

Ron, I have some old Bicycle DBs I can show you next time I see you; more than a handful from various years, that you can use if you wish. Tom

Thanks to Atom3339 (TH) I now have a properly matching red double-back Bicycle card. I may order a DB deck from Amazon and see how close they are, mainly based on the reply from DelMagic.

It is very easy: Bicycle Decks are printed in Supermarket Quality (Quality Level 1). The red or blue ink of the backs (as well as all the other colors) are standardized by using a certain Pantone color number.
Unfortunately, this color can change depending how thick or thin the ink is put onto the cards. And when USPC produces cards in Q3, they don't really care. As long as all cards in one deck have the SAME color they let it pass. As Q3 means high speed production, with only a few inspections, the variation in colors can be EXTREMELY big. Everybody of us should have noticed that sooner or later and just wondered why this could be. Having Bikes in all different shades does not really allow to put cards from one deck into another. There can always be a discrepancy. And this affects all kinds of trick cards like double backers, blank face cards etc. Mentioned that, I am aware of that. Phoenix Decks, that are specially created for Magicians, are ONLY printed in Casino quality (Q1). The standard is much higher and the colors should stay much more precise. Over the years we realized all kinds of decks, gimmicks, trick cards etc. under the brand of Phoenix. And the choice is getting bigger and bigger. Prices of Phoenix Decks are very similar to Bicycle Decks, you might want to try them out, as they are really meant to be your choice of deck. Christian

I had mistakenly assumed my 20+ year old bicycle packets and gaffs were just faded - thanks for this info. I just picked up some Phoenix cards for the first time (to go along with the Phoenix gaffed cards I received with a Science Friction purchase) and am completely happy with the quality.
