Just received this: I'm surprised there isn't more discussion of it around these here internets. Haven't made the gimmick yet, so my thoughts here are first impressions only rather than real-life experiences.
The book is very well produced, with clear diagrams and instructions. As well as advice on construction, there are a number of strong effects taught and some important theory on how best to construct effects using this item. The device itself seems genuinely workable: it is cleverly designed and should look absolutely innocent. It is probably more suited to stand-up/parlour/stage work than close-up. There are limitations: for example, if you were hoping to reveal Zodiac signs in a walkabout setting with this then you would most likely be disappointed. Overall highly recommended and something I plan to use. |

Hi Guys,
I bought way out from Marc at a mini convention a few months back. What can I say? well... Overview - What Marc has done is given Mentalist's a 'way out' whenever they need one.. or 12! The possibilities are endless with this concept and Marc goes into great detail to explain it's many uses and applications. Showing a single piece of paper, an empty envelope yet being able to 100% of the time get a prediction correct is mentalism gold! But what is it? - Well, that would be telling! But essentially it's a really clever principle that Marc tells you how to make step by step. The Book itself - Really nicely produced with good quality cover, copy and artwork. Very clearly explained effects. The Principle - It's Brilliant and any mentalist would be foolish not to have this in their arsenal. It has so many more possibilities than what are outlined in the book. I'd go as far to say as the book is only the tip of the iceberg and that's saying something as there are plenty of uses included! The effects included - Prediction effects, spectator mentalist, chair test esque routines, it's all there and possible with just a single concept. You can tell the routines have been worked by a professional and as such you can appreciate them working in many different scenarios. Close up? On stage? Caberet? - I'd be lying if I said that this method doesn't favor the stage. Because it does, and if you are a cabaret, bar or stage performer then this is perfect. Saying that I perform largely close up mentalism and this still works a treat. Small envelopes can easily be acquired, so it takes up little pocket space. Angles can easily be resolved when working in close up and pose no problems when working on stage. Price - Bargain at £21.99. The principle alone could be sold for double that and I'd have been happy, let alone the inclusion of countless brilliant effects! The best bit? - This concept allows you to develop your own ideas and routines, with no limits as to what is possible. It has had my head buzzing with ideas since I opened the front cover. Also different effects can be used in the same show / gig using the same method and no one will suspect a thing. Trust me.. I've done it! Overall Verdict? - Why it's taken so long for this to be developed God only knows!? But it's simply brilliant and has allowed me, certainly, the ability to create unique routines in my act that I know other magicians will not be using. The included effects are great but the ability to use the concept to create your own is even better. I am certain this will become one of those classic moves that becomes part of the mentalist's vocabulary. Great book, concept, effects and product. Don't be scared because it's a book, certainly worth the read! 9/10! Thanks Sam |

Is the gimmick homemade-able or it comes with the book? Can the gimmick be instant reset?

Ok just watched the rest of the review - Marc's "Way Out XII" is the 12 way out! Now one other question - In the DVD does he show how to make the paper or is it easy enough to figure out from looking at it?

When I practice this and the lights are on (behind you or to your side), you can see a shadow through the card. Wonder if anybody who uses this had any problems with that.
If a spectator notice it, this would kind of reveal something. kiki |
