How many revelations do you feel is the best effect? There are versions with three, five, and more. I'm leaning more towards three but I'd like to hear opinions and the reasoning behind your preferences.

Dr. Faustus would agree with you, DoctorAmazo. That would be the late Dave Hoy, originator of the Tossed Out Deck. Also, there are all sorts of permutations about using 5WFDs, 9WFDs, etc, but why? The late stage hypnotist Raven actually recommended the 9WFD at a lecture. A 1WFD is simple, effective and less to remember. Then you just call the cover card on the face and one other card that isn't there and you're done. Also, keep in mind that the more individual spectators who peek a card, the more possible spectators there are who can get together and compare which cards they saw. What do you do if 9 people get a peek at the same card by chance and then talk after the show? I'm really talking about two different issues here, but stick with a 1WFD and three spectators peeking and you can't go wrong.

I'd go with 3.
The reason I say this is that I have performed this for decades as my opener for stage shows, and this trick, in my experience, depends on guts, timing, and nonchalance in presentation. I instruct the 3 audience participants who peeked at a card in the tossed-out deck to sit down if I name their card and then, when I name "The Cards" with the 3 spectators still standing in the audience, I do it rapid-fire...IE: 3 of clubs, 9 of spades, Queen of hearts (BAM BAM BAM)... All 3 audience participants sit down........ THE SPECTATORS AND AUDIENCE ARE STUNNED.....I smile, and take 3 steps back, then bow..to APPLAUSE! And if I could only perform ONE TRICK for a large (200) or more audience from stage or platform... This would be the trick. It's THAT strong! Also, FWIW....people who see this performed will remember it for years.......THATS SAYING SOMETHING! |
