The question then arises....why would it choose to happen in public and not private? The question really is moot. If it only happened in private, then we couldn't do shows and be paid. But, that's the point for me. If I COULD really DO magic and produce REAL gold coins I wouldn't want to do it in public except as a kind of snarky way to say, "Ha, ha...you think I'm just a pretend magician...but..."
I get what you are saying though. I had at one point an extensive diagram, since lost when some stuff was stolen out of storage, in which I noted magic in a manner that went from the 'most' probable to 'least' probable to be performed and accepted most easily. For instance, for the reasons already noted above, I think that as good as Miser's Dream is when done well, it's not logical that it would be done at all for the sake of entertainment....IF it could really be done. On the other hand, one might readily accept (as I count things) that someone might want to magically cut and restore a rope. It's the type of 'miracle' that one might expect of someone just on the edge of respectability to do as a 'show' of magical skill if you will. Or, to go back to coins for a moment: Coins from Hand to Hand. Here is a nifty 'little' bit of magic that the 'almost' a wizard might actually do for folks to amuse and in that amusement make some kind of living. This is of course all merely theoretical and VERY subjective. But, I have tried to stay consistent within the logical boundries that I had set up. By the way Mentalism in my system falls into two opposing camps! Consistency....hobgoblins...etc. lol In the one case, I see Mentalism as being more EASILY done for folks, because the genre itself is more readily accepted as MAYBE ... real. But, it also falls on the end of my scale that also contains the Miser's Dream! Do you see why? If you could really produce real money from where ever it is that it is coming from....if a Jinn was involved it would probably be from a large and Federally insured banking institution who would look askance if they knew that you were in essence teleporting money from there secure edifice, and thus another reason to keep your ability to produce money from "nowhere" a secret. But, consider Mentalism: IF you could really read mind, see into the future, etc. Wouldn't you like to use this nifty talent to make a living by winning the Lotto, playing high stakes poker, etc.? See what I mean? And, by the way this is NOT lost on the layperson. I have lost track of how many times I was asked EXACTLY that question at least in spirit. Why DON'T you win the Lotto if you are so darned talented? Oh, I know all the answers, etc. Again, I was attempting for myself to figure out what routines would be the easiest to 'sell', if you will and have a logical reason why I thought so. .....I'll toss this in....the reason that I decided that I was probably just spinning my wheels? Take ANY routine and do it in a superbly entertaining manner and you have 'booking' gold. When it all said and done: Did the audience LIKE/LOVE it? Did they go away happy that they had seen you perform? Theory is wonderful unless it gets in the way of the job the entertainer is by definition attempting. Best,

I'm a shamanistic debunker. I perform those effects that shamans/faith healers use to con and then debunk them.
I don't even have to show the secret most times, just the fact that I'm onstage performing it gives it away as a "trick". Which is what I want. But... I MUST perform as if real, only then will it sell.
