Just finished Daniel Okrent's "Nine Innings.". Highly recommended. Okrent's (one of the participants in the first fantasy sports leagues ever) breaks down a single game (Brewers/Orioles), and ties the events into just about everything baseball-related: player salaries, the farm system, trades, the commissioner's office, different types of pitches and why/how they're effective, player personalities and abilities, scouting...it's just a great, pure baseball book.
"Torture doesn't work" lol
Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

Thanks for the tip; will check it out!
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Great call Lobowolf! Okrent is an excellent writer; I love this book! What an ingenious idea by Okrent to talk about The Game in the context of a single game!
If you don't mind, another great read is Hit 'Em Where They Ain't. It's the story of the infamous 1894 Baltimore Orioles. |
