Is there any place that does a sort of seance/mystery performance for people who stay in a castle, mansion, etc. over a weekend?
I think it would be a great idea for travellers to stay in a place with a "story" and seance etc.... Any ideas? Ellen |

I think Black Hart used to do that. But you'd have to go to England.

Ellen,
EvilDan, Rocky Colavito and I created and perform the "Cross Creek Graveyard Seance" in bed and breakfasts, especially at the NJ shore... dead of winter...deserted beach and semi deserted town...wind whistling through the 150-200 year old building dressed in Victorian style, lit with oil lamps. Midnight... This is the seance that is on the Grand Illusions Cd/Tape (Vol I), albeit briefly (about a 2 minute segment). The idea is just as you say...to spend a weekend in a place with a history and have a seance there. Now, our seance does not necessarily have anything to do with the history of the venue in reality, but we always find a way to tie it in. Our seance is so constructed as to be very portable and it can be done anywhere, so that we can go from spooky venue to spooky venue. It received excellent comments and reviews at the ICBM in CT. Best regards, Tony Razzano

My group, Theatre Macabre, is working on marketing a couple of different events similar in theme to that. One is a bit more general to the area and is being marketed to local B&Bs. The other is being designed for a specific venue. I will post more as the project moves along.

There is also a seance performed at the actual house of Lizzie Borden. Yes "that" Lizzie: "gave mother 40 whacks, when she saw what she had done, gave her father 41." It is a bed and breakfast.

Jerry,
Larry White brought that seance to CT for ICBM a few years ago. It is an excellent seance! Exceptionally entertaining. Café members, if you are in the MA area or plan to visit there, I recommend it highly. Best regards, Tony Razzano

May I say that I have been a witness to Trinity's work with the "Cross Creek Graveyard Seance" on several occasions and it really threw me for a loop the first time I saw it. And after the numerous times, I was equally intrigued. If you ever get a chance to see it, do so. These three know their stuff.

I haven't been to any of these, just found them on the web.
The White House of Wilmington, Vermont features a Halloween weekend seance: http://www.whitehouseinn.com/summer_fall.html#halloween This one looks like it's for shut-eyes, but you could always infiltrate: http://www.ghostchatter.com/gettogether.html In Florida, see Theatre Des Seance in Key West: http://www.keywestinns.com/attr.cfm More of this, including the aforementioned Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast, at: http://www.atlanticcityweddings.com/haun......oons.htm Happy Haunting! I am with a group that does Live-Action Roleplaying with a horror theme. They are generally weekend long and we often use effects to "haunt" the venue...

I went to a seance in Key West, it wasn't a weekend extravaganze, merely a two hour evening event. The definitely went to the minimalist approach, which is good, and at the time I enjoyed it, but as my personal experience grows, I'm convinced there was so much more he could have done to establish mood.
Last time I checked I believe there were two of them operating in Key West alone. |
