I just finished reading Totally Out Of Control by Chris Kenner (very good book) and I saw several pictures which seemed to take shots at David Harkey. I was wondering if these were freindly jokes or if they really didn't like each other, and if so, why? Just curious.

I asked Harkey about the same thing a few years back. He said he had no clue for the rub. I was wondering bout the same thing. Maybe Harkey didn't want to get into it, but that was his real answer.
Not clever enough to come up with something orginal, or did I.

Kenner makes fun of Michael Ammar in that book, as well. Maybe he thinks it's really funny. I thought it was completely pointless.

I thought the Ammar stamps were an inside joke, didn't realize he was making fun of him... He also makes a comment about reading someones book, doing a trick, and egtting a tomatoe thrown at him. Hmmm, if anyone knows anything please post =)

My one occasion meeting David Harkey when he lectured here years ago was that he was most opinionated and quite arrogant. I remember arguing with him over tricks for the sake of arguing. I can see where he might draw some attention with satire.
He's most creative though...I guess with some that begets a different personality. Marty |

I've always liked Harkey!!...but then he was the very FIRST magic lecture I ever attended!!!
I remember that at the time I didn't even know what went on at a lecture!!!...I though maybe he talked about the history of magic or whatever!! What a SURPRISE when he started and was explaining how all the stuff WORKED!!!!! He does have some GOOD stuff...and I have his book and video. Guess it's like some other things...you never forget your "first"!!! |

I attended a Harkey lecture and enjoyed it, but his "Simply Harkey" was an overblown, self-aggrandizing book, especially for a relative unknown. (Ditto "Ah-Ha.")
Thus the Kenner digs, IMHO. Matt Field |

Wah wah...
You guys are crying because Chris Kenner made some jokes about a few guys? I don't think it's ever been a big deal. And now here you guys are being drama queens trying to flare something up that was done around 10 years ago. Let it go. Why don't you try posting about the killer material in the book. |

Hey Lonnie,
Who's crying? submagi asked a legitamate question about bad blood between these two. I can't even count how many times I've seen people post on the "fact" that there was a feud between Marlo and Vernon, so how is this different? It's a historical reference and nothing more. Tyler Wilson |

Oh, I wasnt crying, believe me. I just said I didn't think making fun of Ammar was funny. I don't care at all what Kenner thinks of anyone. And by the way, the material is quite good. I like his coin work a lot.
For what it's worth, I should elaborate: humor, of course, is subjective, I guess I just don't understand the point of making fun of other magicians in a magic book. Then again, it's none of my business. |

You guys realize this book was written over ten years ago, right? Kenner was and is a very funny guy and it was just some fun poked at a couple of other prominent magicians at the time.
Harkey is a guy that's easy to make fun of and Ammar was, at the time, a very good magician and one of the most popular magicians around before he became the Wal-Mart magician he's evolved into today. You have a very good question and it's nice that you brought it back to the public conscience for a laugh. If you take a look at the book - You'll notice it was made to entertain as well as educate - so just relax and enjoy it - Learn one of the best 3-fly routines ever. Dave |

Killer material Lonnie? Hmm...I swear I just busted your chops about something in that book if I remember correctly. I can't remember the name of the trick but does it rhyme with oh, say, FIVE SPEED?

Hey Dave,
could you elaborate on the Walmart magician. I find this an interesting title but could describe how one earns it.... |
