Hi All,
I have recently just started to practice magic and have been making my way through The Royal Road to Card Magic. Years of playing poker have made me consistent in the Overhand and Riffle shuffles, but I have been going through the practice routines for these two moves. I spent some time this past weekend playing cards with my better halfs grandma. I was of course being crushed by her, and told her the cards were acting crazy for me. I went to show her what I meant by performing Topsy Turvy cards and she loved it! This wasn't anything mind blowing, but I liked how I was able to tie it into a real life environment. That’s all for now! |

I think a friendly card game is the best place for performing card magic.

Wow.. that first moment when you make magic happen.. its just too good
I still remember when I first practiced my magic trick and performed it to my mother. The reaction I got, and the happiness I felt, made me continue on with my journey with magic. Hope you continue on too..! |

It always most satisfying when you can take an unplanned moment and turn it into something magical.

I'm just getting started too. Was at a family card game and did a few tricks. My brother got a little frustrated because since I was a beginner, he was expecting to know how everything was done. He was amazed that he didn't know how even one trick was done. I did the Elevator Card from the Mark Wilson course and he was sure he saw my DL, but I let him put it back into the deck himself and did the trick again and now he's sure he saw wrong Obviously have to practice that a bit more before I try it again!

I had my first impromptu trick done last week, exactly a month since I've started to learn magic. had a few things I've been working on but given it was my first time and there were 5 people watching closely including some magic castle regs I just did one of the self workers and still almost managed to mess it up LOL. it all worked out and I actually did a continuation to it in a way more confident way. was a nerve wrecking experience nevertheless and my hands were shaking for a good half hour after that but it gave me a huge boost of energy and confidence. so this week I was going to do another trick and somehow spontaneously went into a half hour routine. since these were not self workers my hands were shaking so bad I could barely shuffle.. thank god it all worked out. ended up doing some money magic in addition to cards magic even though I was not confident in my money skill at all. managed to mess up one of the acts afterall and had to improvise my way out of it. then had a 50+yo adult acting like a child grabbing and flipping my cards out of excitement which almost blew my cover but it all worked out nicely and even more critical participants I think were puzzled. so now I have much more appreciation for actual performance as a means of learning rather than trying to perfect it in in the dark corner of my place. I kinda promised a performance every friday so now that I've spilled out all I knew I'd have to rev up my learning a bit for the next week getting such a kick out of it though!

That is awesome to hear woosh! I'm not sure I know enough yet to put on a show every week. I try to learn a trick or two every week and practice them a lot before I even think about showing anyone else. I may try some at work around the holidays, but it will depend on how confident I am.

Lol. well, I promised a trick a week, but then it naturally took me from one trick to another till I got through all of them I figured how to preset a deck to include all the tricks I know as I was trying to make a routine out of it and the temptation to try the whole thing was too great now another friday is here and I can't say I'm ready for tomorrow... maybe different people that I can try old tricks on but getting out there and doing it is definitely a confidence builder. plus you learn tons of stuff that you won't find in the book
