But breaking the set up into pieces, y have tools to perform hundreds of things (granted, many takes on the same plots but still). A flipper, I would say, is not nearly as versatile as a hopping halves set. |

Do you know if you want to work with dollars or halves yet? I ask because it is quite costly if you get one and then later decide you need to work with the other size for some reason. I believe we should always use the biggest prop we can for the effect because it increases visibility and allows more of the crowd to see it clearly. (If you are not sure, just get 5 Kennedy halves and 5 Ikes, all clad of course, and try some effects)
Then you should seriously think of what effects are most important to you. What trick do you think you will use every day? Do you have plans to do many different coin tricks? Are you working performing magic or hope to? All of these questions are important to deciding what you should get. If you are going in Dollar size coins I say go with Lassen. My reasoning for this is very simple. Today if you buy decent older date Morgan coins, ones that still have some detail, you will pay between $27 and $45. An 1886 0 coin in fair condition sells for like $45 last time I checked. If you buy an expanded shell from Tango it's going to cost around $200. The Johnson shell looks to be uncirculated so we won't use that unless someone else can tell me it's not. Now, to make a Morgan set you will pay $140 for 4 Morgan Dollars, plus you will pay $200 for the Tango Shell. That is $340. Todd's expanded shell set is not going to cost you much more than that, say $75-$100 more, and you can the edges re-milled. If you are going with halves you'll have to do the math on your own. |

Scotch and Soda is definitely up there as well. Of course, I'd like to add a TUC (half) as well, but I think I'll begin with the set as mentioned, and keep the TUC as a birthday suggestion Cheers Quote:

As this is a hobby for me, albeit an all encompassing one, I cannot (just yet) justify the cost of what I would love to own, which is a full set of soft Morgans + shell, as well as the same in Barber halves. So, I just purchased five Morgan copies (please don't flame me!!) to add to my collection of Eisenhowers, English pennies, Kennedy halves, and a bunch of junk coins ranging in size from 30mm to 40mm. I've 'discovered' over the years that some work better than others for a given routine. For what it's worth I lean towards the smaller coins, only because I've spent more time with halves in my hands than dollars. I do not plan to make this my living, as I am just about to retire (although I've been off work for the past 3 yrs..). Having said that, all this practice is going to be used, just not sure exactly where Lastly, I do want to do as many different routines as possible, and want to avoid being...boring. The only analogy that comes to mind is a band that strives to make each song sound unique. That is my goal. Cheers |

Well If you do want to do as many different routines as possible, Then I would say go with a hoping half first! There is just so many things you can do with a shell!

No flaming will come for Choice of coins as long as you don't buy from Magic Takers, I mean Makers. I just wanted you to be aware of the small price difference in Lassen and Tango for silver coins.

You get a c/s with the hopping half set, you can do many transpotitions with that... A matching copper coin will help lots...
Customized greatly...
