Greetings people,
Wow!!! 22 years. Can you believe it? Our favorite time of the year will soon be upon us. The time when we all get together, raise up our glasses, toast the gods and demons, and say, "Can you pass me the peanuts." I know some of you say that it's not as bizarre as it used to be. But who's fault is that? If Joe had enough bizarre enthusiasts attending, he wouldn't have to dip into the mundane magic crowd. But, that's not necessarily a bad thing either. Because here's what's been happening. Bizarre has been spreading. Joe Cabral invites the regular magicians to perform. This gets them to see bizarre magick and they like it. So that influences what they do afterwards and slowly I've seen the trend towards magick with meaning, even in crass commercial offerings. Granted, they aren't all bizarre, but there is more meaningful magic out there. Needless to say, Colleen and I will be there. I've been attending the Gathering since #5 and haven't missed one since. It's my favorite convention. I like the magic, I like the creativity, and I love the friendships fostered over the years. That being said, I have to say that I do miss Brother Shadow, Robin Dewitt (aka Kardor) and Bob Fenton. Brother Shadow is still with us physically, but has not been able to attend for a number of years. Robin and Bob are no longer of this realm and I cherish every moment I got to spend time with them. They taught me a lot about magic and life. We have new people to induct into the bizarre way of life: Bev Bergeron: I saw him once at a magic convention. I don't remember him teaching anything he just told stories about being on the road, or working with other magicians. These stories were great. Can't wait for him to hold court in the hospitality suite. Rick Merrill: FISM Close Up Champion - I'm sure we'll be able to learn a thing or two from him, and I'm sure he'll learn a thing or three from us. Oscar Munoz and Stephan Bargatze are also on the slate. And then there's Artie Kidwell. I met Artie last year and found him to be one of the nicest guys in the world. And he's a great emcee. HE is one of the guys I can't wait to hang out with again this year. Colleen and I have something new and special to present for the Friday night bizarre show. Should be exciting to say the least. And knowing the creativity of our members, YOU KNOW that the Friday night show never disappoints. So, get your applications in. Reserve your rooms and we'll see you all that the Gathering in a few weeks. http://www.icbmmagick.com/events.php NOVEMBER 14-16, 2013 EVILDAN.

Just a quick wrap up review of the 22nd Annual ICBM Gathering!
It was awesome! Thank you! Just kidding, though the convention WAS awesome. We got to see a lot of magic, a whole lot of comedy from Bev Bergeron, Oscar Munoz, Rick Merrill, Stephen Bargatze, and allot of Bizarre Magick from many of the regulars. We also got to hang out and make friends (or renew old acquaintances) with these performers in the Hospitality Suite! The dealers carried their cool stuff including the Bound hardcover compilation of "The Alter Flame(s)" by Mary Tomich and both of Leslie Melvilles "Magic Tales" together in a hardbound collectors edition. The works in progress show was awesome as well as the close-up show, and the first night retrospective of the career of Bev Bergeron! So much fun creativity, magic, (and wine) was flowing all weekend long! I can hardly wait until next year! S. Patrick |
