Has anyone actually seen or been performing Eric Ross' "Infinity Bend" effect?
Penguin has begun sending out email announcements on this. From my perspective, the trailer (at http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/1955 ) is very edited and jumps around with much inane useless information; I struggled to watch this 1:38 video trailer and, at the end, had gained no information about the product that would cause me to want to buy this product. Still desiring more info on the effect, I tried to decipher the ad copy and was treated to the following: 1. "Infinity Bend is so simple and once you learn the method taught on this DVD you will be bending coins in no time.", and, 2. "FAQ Q: Can I borrow a spectator's coin? A: You sure can!" Perhaps more helpful information might have been "Can you borrow and then bend a signed spectator's coin in front of him..and then immediately hand the spectator back his signed (now bent) coin?" Without this specific desired information, the ad copy lends itself to speculation that the coin (or "coin") that you might "be bending in no time" is not an actual borrowed signed spectator coin. Adding to this uncertainty are the images of the just bent "coin" shown at 00:30-00:31...and at 00:41. Doesn't look like any coin I've ever seen or one that I would expect to have handed to me by a spectator. And, as far as the statement about "bending coins in no time", such comment does not negate the possibility that such coins are pre-bent in a vice and then, individually, Bobo-S*******" in and handed out to the spectator at the end of the effect as "his" (unsigned?) original coin. Other helpful information would have been whether or not any coin provided by a spectator could be used and be bent during the performance. Neither the video trailer nor the ad copy provides helpful information sufficient to allow the potential buyer to make an informed choice. I get sooo tired of such ambiguous dealer ads. (sigh) I'll wait for Café member reviews before taking a chance on this one.

Agreed. The trailer is too jumpy (darn kids!). But the trick is really, really good.
It's got a really satisfying method. It's a brilliant combination of 2 clever principles that have never been used together before. Let me make it a really easy decision for you. If you're genuinely unsatisfied, I'll be more than happy to refund you in full, no questions asked. |

It's been out 5 years, costs 11 Bucks and has great reviews. You make the gimmick yourself from household items. Just buy it and find out for yourself.
1 reviewer's review. Eric Ross Infinity Bend allows you to perform the most visual coin bends ever seen. Eric came up with the solution to the problem that most coin bends face, the ability to make bends visually without cover or the use of expensive gimmicks. Effect: Borrow a coin from a spectator and visually bend it in full view at your finger tips. Video and Quality: The video is very well edited, put together and produced. It covers everything really indept; quality was great, no problems hearing or seeing what was being said or done. Teaching: Eric's leaves no rock unturned. His teaching is is taught with the upmost precision, very detailed; with all tips, tricks and subtleties. Very understandable and easy to follow along and superb. Method: The methods are very devious and deceptive, yet ingenious. Infinity Bend uses a simple concept, which other products are there have used, but what makes this different is the extra little things (tips, tricks and subtleties) that Eric has added. Gimmick: Eric teaches how you can construct a gimmick to create a gimmick for the newer or older coins. Very easy to construct and you make make an infinite number of gimmicks in a very short time...very workable and incredible. Handlings: Eric teaches 2 handlings of these bend, one where the coin is held at the fingertips, at stomach level and as he shakes it, it starts to bend. The other handling is more of an advanced handling of the first. Both are very visual and workable. I perfer the advanced handling of Eric's. But my favorite version would have to be Brandon Williams, who teaches his handling of the bend. Here the coin is done at eye level and is visually squeezed, such a visual, nice piece. Angles: The angles can be a problem for some, but with the right confidence and management you can easily control them to make it comfortable for you. The different handlings taught play well for any 1-on-1 situation or a group. For instance, Eric's Handling is best suited for a 1-on-1 or 3 people group, while Brandon's is better for 4-? people group and 1-on-1 as it is held at eye level for all to see. Practicality: Very, all you need to do is carry the needed items and you have some very visual effects in your hands. Bonus: As a bonus Eric teaches his handling of the coin matrix: Silent Matrix which is mad visual, silent and doesn't need the use of a magician's mat. The same method taught for the bend is adapted here. Very sleight set-up, but well worth it. Overall: Mad visual effects taught in here, Eric has put some very creative thinking in these effects and Papercrane outdid themselves with this one. I HIGHLY suggest picking up a copy, or at least checking it out. |

I watched the promo video and my suspicions were raised by the slightly "off" appearance of the coin. When I see something for the first time and something "just doesn't look right" and leads me to surmise even a possible method, then I err on the side of caution and assume that my audience will have a similar reaction.
Too many magicians fool themselves into thinking that laypeople are stupid, naive or unobservant. Often, they're just too polite to say the magic was lame. I'm not saying this particular trick is lame but it didn't convince me and so it's an easy decision *for me* to take a pass. I'm always curious how many performances and audience reactions get filmed and then cut before getting the big reactions shown in these promo videos. I had to roll my eyes at a Penguin promo video I watched yesterday where the performer raved about how the trick packed small and they took it everywhere because "the reactions are huge!" Meanwhile, in the half dozen or so performances in that same video, the reactions were mostly polite smiles. Not even huge polite smiles. Creators, if your creation is weak, don't waste your time and energy (and our money) on it! Move on and make something you can really be proud of! |

Perhaps then, in this case, penguin has cherry picked the reviews.

It's not Quantum Bender by a long shot (but what do you expect for $12?) ;-)

With all this discussion on here, why hasn't anyone answered the original questions?
Are you actually bending the spectators coin or not? If it uses a switch, say so! That doesn't mean its a bad trick. I have several switching type tricks that are awesome. I buy a lot of things from Penguin but I always go here first to get better quality reviews. The ones on Peguin frequently sound like a bunch of friends wrote them. I agree with the first commenter "Other helpful information would have been whether or not any coin provided by a spectator could be used and be bent during the performance. Neither the video trailer nor the ad copy provides helpful information sufficient to allow the potential buyer to make an informed choice." Can anybody who has this trick respond to these issues? |

I bought this ''trick'' years back. if you do it the right way, it gives the impression that the spec coin bends. gimmick can be made easily made in minutes. you allready have the stuff needed for this bend. a simple sw+++h is all you need to do. is it practical? no comment. have I ever used it? no comment is this the best bending coin effect of all times? penguin says yes, I say: no comment. is it worth 12 bucks? no comment, you decide if you really like what you see on the trailer, I would say: go for it! hope this helps:)

I was just on the penguin web site to buy it and I see the price is now $19.99 without shipping, it's not the $12 bucks I was hoping for, so I decided not to buy it .

I too was operating under the $12.00 price information and now find that the price was unceremoniously and without warning raised to the $19.95 price. AARGH!! Since a lot of my buying decisions are based upon Café member comments, it is starting to seem that these brief low prices are there to encourage impulse buying (that is void of useful information) or, once you have sufficient information the price has now been raised. It almost seems like a potential buyer is being penalized for trying to make an informed decision. Double AARGH!! But for that one niggle, I love Penguin Magic and its customer service and product selection. And, as evidenced by Acar's posts on this thread, customer service is very important to him and to Penguin Magic. I just wish that temporary pricing and sale pricing information was prominently posted so that a person at least knew how much time he had to make a particular buying decision...before a price change would occur.

The specials Penguin has are the 'Cool Box' deals. They have a gauge saying what the percentage being sold is, so you can tell how long it's going to last. The e-mail announcements can't tell us how long the special will last because it's based on how much is being sold. It's listed at 24 hrs. but they usually sell out before that time has elapsed ( I've bought things that were up for about 18 hrs. and at 98% sold and then I crack and pull the order trigger;-)
