Hi folks,
Hope someone can help with this. I'm looking to make a simple foldable box that I can place on top of my stage table. Ideally, it's purpose is to mask props during the performance until I'm ready for them (no assistant folks!). Anyone made/bought one and can offer some tips? Thanks in advance

I would use piano hinges. Fold it similar to this with a flap that covers the opening.

Nice suggestion Pat, thank you! I'm wondering if I should go for a piece of thin ply wood or something else

This is an excellent answer to your question. Laflin's Utility Drop Box
I bought 3 because I like them so much. Folds Flat Cardboard covered with sparkle metallic paper. Very nicely made. Seen Dwayne Laflin at magic conventions Velcro holder and bags around the opening for steals of his color changing gimmicks. I use mine to catch the salt from the long salt pour, just put a clear waste basket liner in the this. Great solution if you don't want to use Top Hat, for working out of for many of your tricks. http://www.laflinmagicstore.com/ProductD......e=MPDUDB |

If you still want to make one. I would use something thin yet sturdy enough to hold its shape. Maybe thin birch. I would talk to the guys at Home Depot, tell them what you want to do, that should be good. Good luck to you.

Head over to the local Ikea or The Container Store. Go to the storage section. They have lots of folding storage boxes in many different sizes. If you don't like the outer covering, it's easy to add some interesting contact paper or cloth covering to suit your needs.
