Do You need a permit to use a Waistband Amplifier in Central Park in NYC? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you can use amplification anywhere in Central Park, permit or no.
Carlos (for one), who has worked NYC lately, would know for sure though. |

Technically no.
Lately I've seen many people who use moderate amplification and they don't seem to get hassled. It seems that lately enforcement is a little lax in the park. This can change any moment but for now it's a good thing.

Famous last words indeed.
Used to be that you couldn't so much as pull out a sketch pad. After being involved in a number of lost lawsuits over the right to free expression it seems that the park enforcement agents allow most things. It's the same on the streets. As long as you're respectful and don't create a nuisance or danger there isn't a problem. That's today. Tomorrow who knows?

Hey guys, don´t hide.
Why do you NEED a Sound System in Central Park? Enlighten me. There are nö automobles. Nö Carnaval Karosells. (yes, I know I spelt that wrong.) Nö,.. trains, Streetcars, Roaring Lions. Why Sound Systems? thank you, gallagher. |

I would think that what and how a person chooses to perform is up to them.
NYC will be going through some interesting times. Central park included. De Blasio the future mayor has suggested that funding for Central Park should be cut back to help fund other parks that have not received funding. as a life long New Yorker, who lives in Northern Manhattan enforcement of quality of life and law enforcement seems completely arbitrary. Pan Handling and busking on the trains used to be strictly enforced. Now dance crews with boom boxes are a daily occurrence both on the train and platforms. I realize this post is about Central Park and amplification. the point I raise is that the pendulem may be swing back the bad old days of Dinkens. Law enforcement and park Service may have more important things to focus on. I will agree that I have not found the need for amplification in the park. |

I find Dance Crews, with boom boxes,.. a nucance.
Profi-panhandlers worse. They enter, and disrupt my intimate space. ,with their loudness,.. or their face of pity. This tends to close me up more and more for the rest of the world. THAT ****es me off. I think I´m probably not the only one with this "problem". Freedom of Speech,.. yes. Freedom of Disturbance,.. nö. If educating the practitioneers doesn´t work,.. Controls. Hard,.. fast. gallagher. |

Twister my show is still a work in progress and painful at times. The problem I have is I am a late bloomer at 50 and so don't have the stamina I used to. I love doing it though. Winter is a hard time in NYC with the weather and winds. LOL I do a sponge ball Benson Bowl routine, which is my best routine but the sponge balls are at the mercy of nature.
Our new Mayor? Dinkens 2.0. Got your messages...thanks. |

I don't know about "amplification," but I do know that there are sections of Central Park (not certain which) which are marked as "silent zones."
