I did a show last night and the tricks went extremely well but no one heard me. The place I was performing for had a wireless mic but no stand. I had the volunteers hold the mic, although funny it was in my mind very distracting. Help me find a adequate system.

There are several threads in the FX forum (next to this one in the list) on this subject.
If you ever find yourself in that situation again, a piece of string (shoelaces work)will allow you to hang the mic around your neck. They actually sell a cheap gizmo to do this but I forgot what they call it. It has the strings mounted to a bent wire that holds the mic in the perfect position essentially making it a lapel mic. I carry this little string thing in my case for an emergency but never needed it. All of this is not the optimum way to go but sure beats someone holding the mic for you. Sound systems vary widely on size, power, and features. It depends on audience size and other prefernce factors. I used to think of myself as a self proclaimed expert on the subject until I went to the Magic Roadie site (listed there)I will shut up now! Oh...I found one like what I have but this one isn't as cheap. Here it is: http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&......allmagic

Sorry I am chimeing in late. Just got back from my xmas shows. The best bang for the buck is a small but
loud 125 watt system called a passport made by Fender. I used to be in a band and these set ups are great!!! Do a search on the net for the best prices. This system comes in two wattages and are really great.

Hey check out http://www.musiciansbuy.com for the Passports. I got mine for about $200 less than most retail spots. Plus they had a free UPS ground special going on. (this was two years back though)
They were quick! Robert Bloor

In a emergency use a coat hanger, just pull it into a diamond shape.
The mike fits perfectly in th hook. Another is make a circle of rope, put over your neck, make a loop at your chest. Place the mike into the middle fo the knot. Always be ready for the unexpected. Require these in your contact. Like a free standing mike stand. The mick holder mention above is called, Freedom, at Doug Malloy web site. http://www.malloymodernmagic.com/products.htm Scroll down to the mike holder. Bill |

The 'new' Can Amp is a small and loud wonder, battery operated and small enough to be an emergency sound system you can chuck in the trunk. It can do several hours on a charge. Pretty inexpensive, too.
My favorite good, dependable works-forever pretty-cheap amp is the now discontinued Maxi-Mouse by Lectrosonics. These workhorses can go for (2) 8-hour days on a single charge. They sound good, they're small and portable, can take a beating, can run a second sound source thru it, you can run another speaker off of it.... You can occasionally find them on Ebay and in pawn shops from $50 to $150.00. Don't worry if they can't take a charge, replacing the battery is an easy solder-job, and they work like new. ...and if you want to go wireless without spending a fortune, those nifty chinese $20 Wireless Microphone jobs do a pretty good job, too. You wouldn't normally need a better system than these and a maxi-Mouse for your performing sound system OR for your emergency system. The wireless transmitter is about the size of a cigarette pack, and you plug it into the Amp Input, and fire it up. Tom

I have the portable system from Florida Magic and I love it. I've used it out on the street and at a few of my magic shows. It is clear, small and compact, and comes with a wireless lapel mike and a headset mike. It was great at my last show, which was in a gazebo in a park right near the major highway going through the town I live in-which meant I could be heard over all the 18 wheelers going by.
Nice, affordable system. Chad |

Hi
I use the Fender passport and a shure headset radio mike with a line mike for backup. If you can afford it go for the UHF Radio system. Paula

Fender Passport with the Shure cordless microphone system is the way to go. That is what I use. Easy to install, 5 min or less, and easy to pick up and go. With this equipment, you can perform for a huge crowd, NO PROBLEMS.
