I'd like to have a set of bright metal cups, but I'd like to handle something heavier than aluminum. Is steel significantly heavier? Too bad I don't have a shop nearby to try them out.

Steel is heavier yes, copper cups with a surface treatment (nickel, chrome) will work as well. Assuming bright for you meant silver.
You can have very shining copper and brass cups as well. |

Thanks, yes, "bright" meant "silver".

Steel is also attracted to magnets, what give you another set of possibilities.
Aluminum is cheaper though. |

Does anyone have any experience with the cups offered as part of this package? They seem to be the right dimensions and heavy enough.

Those are the "Chrome" version of the Magic Maker Brass "Paul Faux" style cups - These are the same as the Copper Penguin Cups, to my understanding. (Check the C&B museum under MM Inc)
I have seen this combo set up close at my brick and mortar shop - Which with a wand + Eddy Ray DVD, and for that price, is a great intro package. They are indeed very shiny, which prevented me from grabbing them that day (I go for the worn / antiqued copper or brass style cup), and the weight on the Paul Faux cups is great (imo, based on the copper version). Steel > Aluminum (by much weight), and Chrome > Nickel (by some brightness) Check out this link for a bunch of shiny, heavy, amazing cups: http://www.rnt2.com/index.php?subcats=Y&......_page=48 |

Thanks for the information. I have the Penguins and really like them. If these are essentially the same but in chrome, then I'm sure to be happy with the purchase.
Thanks also for the RNT link, but I spend too many hours a day drooling over Donnie's stuff as it is. |

The chrome cups arrived today. Yes, they are extremely similar to the Penguins in design and heft; however, the chrome are just a shade slimmer -- not exact duplicates.

I wonder if this slight difference is a result caused by them purposly spinning from a different shaped cup... or if the slight variance is a caused by the human hand-made factor / a lack of stringent quality control ? With all things hand made, I expect slight varience - With that being said, are they noticeably much narrower than the copper? (0.1" less>?) |

Yes. I first thought they were the same design and had an idea that some effect could be made out of mixing the two colors of cups. But the chromes will not sit down on the coppers, and the coppers hag down loosely on the chromes. Then I set two cups side by side and the taper was clearly different.
Sigh! Looks like I'm just going to have to buy two sets of Paul Foxes from RNTII if I want to mix them. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. |
