Admit that this is hard to beat! People are happy to be separated from their money.

The only problem is it looks like the people are giving the man 1 RMB at a time and it takes like 7 RMB to equal a dollar. That is going to be one tired bird at the end of the day if that guy goes home with enough to even eat.

G'day Stellan
A clever bit of bird training - down here in Australia our $2.00 is a coin about that size - that could be worthwhile - problem is our smallest coin is a 5 cents and is also about that size as well - and I expect that would be the one people would offer. Bob Latta (aka Troppo Bob) |

I think there is another lesson to learn from this. It is not about getting a bird.
Instead think about the mindset you and other people have when they give money. What mindset do you have when you happily give away money? Then think about what you do on the street and how your actions affect people. Do you make them smile? Do you impress them? Do you surprise them? What is happening with the bird? Put up a hypothesis about what state they will be in that most likely will make them give money and how you put them in that state. This will be a bit different for every performer. Try to beat the bird!

If it's is a fun crowd, I will sometimes ask for a $5 or $10 & then do a bill switch to a dollar & say "Thank you kind sir for the tip, does anyone now have a twenty or fifty?" It usually gets a good laugh, and the person I "borrowed" it from will usually smile & say keep it. If he looks mad or that he wants it back, I'll just mouth the words that I'll give it back after the show. I haven't had to give back too many.

Think about a ventriloquist with a hand puppet going up and taking the money...
The presentation makes the magic.
