I like the idea but more for the travel aspects than the bottle.
I think some are over crediting the Evaporation bottle by poo pooing a pitcher. While I want him to do well I don't want others to toss out their pitcher. Let's not forget that the more Sunny D Bottles used to make liquid vanish in a show , people will pick up on it just as much as they would a pitcher! I guess it depends how popular that drink is. I had a friend tell me he never heard of the stuff and when he saw the video thought everything looked artifical, not realizing Sunny D is just that:) so to him it looked tricky from the start as our Swedish friend was worried about. (I bet you he can gimmick you a bottle if you send him one from Sweden which would give you a huge edge) To say a pitcher is outdated is wrong. It is is more natural. Hey put sunny D in it if you want. No one ever limited one to using only milk. So many pizza restaurants with a soda tap will serve soda in plastic pitchers. I did several communions and tables all had a plastic pitcher with water. I serve ice tea and lemonade at family parties in pitchers. Pitchers are not outdated. Lesson to consider: It is not that the pitcher is the problem but how many are using the SAME pitcher in their show doing it THE SAME way. Second Lesson: The more popular a trick bottle becomes one be able to revive their pitcher since then few were be using it. Quote:

Justin Flom just put up a video with Evaporation in it (at the 1:06 mark): http://youtu.be/RzZHOi17rqU
Very cool and creative use for it! |

I've just tried to set up "Evaporation" and no matter how hard we "suck" the bottle does not fill to the top. The video says to fill with liquid just above the label. When we do, it only comes part to the way up the neck; not to the top.
We're using water to try this trick out. Does it matter what the liquid is ? Maybe water isn't heavy enough? Comments please. |

Inhuman inferno, did you try all the tricks mentioned in the video? What card stock are you using?

Abbeylane, when I first received this, I tried it with water. It works just as well for me. It is just a matter of practice and loading the gimmick in a way that works better for you.

Just want to share my very positive experience with Evaporation.
For over thirty years I have been using a classic milk pitcher. I love the effects which can be produced with one but the set up is a pain. Having to carry a separate container with liquid and using a turkey baster to set up on site can be messy and is not ideal. I thought I would give Evaporation a try. It definitely solves the setup but out of the box had a few drawbacks for me. One, is I have several routines which require different colored liquids. This is not an issue for a milk pitcher but is for Evaporation as the bottle has a label. Second, an opaque label lessens the impact in my opinion as it covers up much of the liquid within the container. Third, I wanted the appearance of more liquid having been poured. I found a solution for all these problems by making a custom gimmick based on the larger Gatorade G-Zero bottle. This bottle is about 7 3/4 inches high and 3 1/2 inch round. It has a tapered top section which makes the amount of liquid poured very apparent. The label has transparent sections which makes the majority of the liquid visible at all times. Finally, it comes in a variety of flavors of different color so just by swapping labels I can match the liquid with just one gimmick. It took a little experimenting to get the gimmick just right. Louie Foxx graciously provides good general instructions for making custom gimmicks. But I wanted to do a slow pour with minimal sound so went to the hardware store to pick up pieces of differing sizes. {Note, I am being purposely vague here to protect the method). One nice thing about the G-Zero bottle is that it has a perfect sized flat area near the barcode. Below is the end result. Note, I didn't change label yet for this picture so color doesn't match label. And I found the use of deeper colored liquid better as the G-Zero liquid is a little too transparent. Before pour: After pour: The response has been great! Also, I should mention the "zero" in the name can lead to some good patter lines. Now I am working with a friend on a new 'bizarre magic' trick based on this principle. We call it "Death Sauce". Instead of a drink we have been experimenting with hot sauce bottles. Spectators dip toothpicks in a very hot sauce and take a taste. Even a drop is almost unbearable. Then the magician pours a huge amount onto a spoon and laps it up. He is playing it straight, with talk about being a fire eater and face distortion. I am playing it comedy with a Magma gimmick and some smoke as I cover my mouth. Very interesting reactions. But the point here is that Louie Foxx has created a method that will work with ANY type of liquid, even viscous ones, in different types of bottles. In my opinion, right now the surface is just being scratched as to what can be done with this idea. |

Frank,
Glad it's working out for you! One thing that I've done in the past if you don't want a label, is you can match the gimmick to the color liquid you want to use. So let's say you have a red gimmick and a bottle with no label. You use red food coloring and a little bit of coffee creamer (not milk, but cream). The creamer will make the liquid opaque. You'll have to play with it a bit the first few times to get your proportions right. Now you can use the bottle without a label, it will create a "black art" sort of blending. Another thing to play with is using the principle with solids. A jar of jelly beans that's full, you pour some out into a paper back and then it disappears or turns to confetti, or whatever. |

I have to ask: Did you even watch the video demos and read the reviews of Evaporation before you purchased it ? If you did, you should have had a very good idea of what you would be getting. In my experience the Evaporation prop does exactly what it claims to do in the description and as shown in the video demos. I don't know how you can fault a product for doing exactly what it claims to do. It's well-made , too , unless maybe you got a defective one (?). Are you saying that the one you got does not work or does not do what was shown in the video demo ? I believe Evaporation is a very clever idea , it's very practical (easy to travel with and easy to reset) , and it's well-made. The only thing I don't particularly care for with Evaporation is that the amount of liquid apparently poured out of the bottle is not that much. With a standard milk pitcher/milk bottle/milk tumbler prop it looks as if 2/3rds of the liquid is poured out, leaving about 1/3rd remaining in the pitcher/bottle/tumbler. The better made pitchers will give the illusion of 3/4ths of the liquid poured out with only 1/4th remaining in the container. With Evaporation it looks like you pour out 1/3rd of the liquid and 2/3rds remains in the bottle after the pour. |
