Because most aren't mature enough to discuss without resorting to being rude...

You can learn from any one or any thing...using grief as entertainment or a novelty act is not one of 'em...
its a shame such an abhorrent personality inhabited someone who is used as a representative of all those that do this kind of this - but they do it in a more caring, positive way...the ones at the "top table" always end up defining what the (non-believing part of the) general public think of everyone (by default) who do this work... at its root, I understand the original kindness behind it - someone has trouble moving on, so they need a stranger to tell them "yes, just got a message from them..they say they love you, and to live a happy and positive life, they're not in any pain, and know you did your best...". you may as well print that out on a card and hand it to everyone, and just personalise the name...and say its a spirit message...barnum statements from beyond! its in many ways, easier to go see a psychic-medium when you are at rock bottom with grief...its hard for friends to say "hey, c'mon now...lets go talk to a professional about it...lets get you some help..." - cos they feel sorry for the troubles their friend/relative are going through..they want to provide comfort... and yes, sometimes these people do provide comfort, a service, and yes sometimes people do get to move on...however, they can also become addicted to it...they don't have to face up to the idea that the person they love has now physically gone...they simply can't do it - trapped in a circle of grief... so they need help - and even to a degree, a little bit of tough love...which is even harder for some people to give... that's the real problem, people are too scared to face up to a very sad cold hard truth...the person you love is no longer physically around, and they might have died alone and in pain...no one wants to think about that...however, those that offer professionally trained services that will help you process and work through that "well, what do I do with my life now?" question, as well as handle the self imposed guilt...they are there and available... just think of that person's thought process... in their utter desperation they are willing to go on prime time tv and offer up their suffering in the vague, vague hope they are picked and discussed...only to hear a few hits (vagueness is a sliding scale) - p**-s*** and whatever else, and then rounded off with "they understand"...but only checking that the camera has picked up on their tears and sobs first..that person would rather do THAT then any other choice in the world... that's what makes me sad...as they don't have anyone who is willing to offer up the tough-love to get them long lasting, true and kind therapy that'll leave them softly stronger and just a little more capable to deal with those issues if they have to experience them again... as mentalists, yes - we can learn about bravado, about verbal dancing, reframing and all the rest...but we can learn that from other kinds of people who aren't so vulture like... some do some good - others don't... look at this poor woman's face...you really think she deserved to go through this on tv? wouldn't you much rather show her some gentle compassion followed up with some slightly tougher love? I'll help you deal with this..."lets go to a bereavement counselor together" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRc4LkBRjIc we can also learn to do this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t07UzTcApMI

Been looking at her site... there's an "ask sylvia" section:
Kari H. asked: Hello Sylvia, I Love You!!! I am having a hard time finding what direction to take in life. Can you tell me what job field I should look into? I'm a single mother who would love to spend more time with my child as well as have a meaningful career. Any advice would help, thank you! Yes, in elderly home care. Marsha R. asked: Chris told me in a reading that I would live until a ripe old age. Do you see many years still ahead with my husband? Thank you so much. Love you, Yes, many. ________________________ two things I didn't know about her, one was that she believed in reincarnation, and secondly her real name is "Sylvia Celeste Shoemaker" - which is a far more interesting name... and I can't help but think her last name is appropriate (but only works if you're of a certain age, and english)... also - her criminal convictions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_Brow......victions
