Hey guys,
I recently got booked for a couple of parties and wanted to compare my show to what you put in yours. Maybe I can take a couple of suggestions. Thanks!

Is it walk around or do you stand or sit?

Most likely it would be walk around, but still would be interested in hearing about others.

Stealth Pen, Two Card Monte, Two Card Transposition, Ambitious Card, a little joke with a bill I got from a friend (would be glad to share) and that's basically it. Walk around I usually do two effects, then move on.

Sponge Balls
Ambitious Card Be Honest What Is It Out of This World Crazy Man's Handcuffs Thumbs Vanishing Glass (or Saltshaker)
I would, however contest that there is in REALITY very little pportunity to perform what could actually be termed "close-up" magic.

A few additional effects to consider are:
B'Wave - you probably would want some small surface area to spread the cards out on, if you're considering packet effects at all. Kollosal Killer Pindemonium Something with dice - Doctor Sacks, It's The Rules or Ivory Connection Those are just a few others that are very easy to have on your person and perform close-up. GlenD

For Strolling magic, I do various combinations using one from each catagory. I do from 1-3 effects per group, as a general rule.
COINS: Flash coin production, flurry, jumbo coin production. Gadabout coins Coins Across 3-Fly CARDS: Doubleback - by Jon Allen Malini Color Change, card production and vanish I knew it all the time - Paul Green No Problem - Johnny Ace Palmer OTHER: Chameleon silks Ring to wallet Recap Rising business card
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

Coroner's Transposition(Sankey), Copper Silver Sankey(Sankey), Coins Across(Roth), Chicago Matrix(myself, "borrowing" ideas from Paul Cummins and David Roth), Wild Coin(Roth), Parallel Worlds(Sankey), Torn & Restored Transpo(Williamson), Cups and Balls(Williamson), Linking Rings(fairly standard, with a touch of Columbini). For "encore" type stuff I throw in either Blizzard(Dill), Blown Away(Columbini), or another Columbini routine which is similar to Blown Away but I forgot the name. Obviously I'm not much of an original thinker, but I am a pretty good performer.

On the first round I do a couple of small tricks to get them excited:
Two card monte Color Monte Spell-a-name outdone (Wilson) Later on I would come back and do one of my longer card routines like my version of Ambitious, or Larry Jennings' "The Maestro's Poker Demonstration" This lets me just keep a deck of cards in my pocket at all times. I hate clutter! |

Sponges
CMH Rubber Band Thru Thumb (my handling of a Joe Rindflishe effect) Cash ladder Ring up Rubber Band (can you tell these 4 are a ROUTINE?) Card to Forehead Top Change routine Ambitious Card routine Triumph LePaul's Gymnastic Aces (with selections) Chop Cup Prof's Nightmare 1 Rope Routine (including penetration of volunteer's finger) Mismade Bill routine w/coin purse Pen Through Anything Han Ping Chien 1 Coin Routine (w/giant Chinese coin finish) RubDown (Ross Bertram) as straight vanish Coins Across Dice Stacking w/jumbo die finish Combo Cups & Balls Haunted Key in Volunteer's hand (no gaff suggestion method) Glorpy Linking Pins Color Changing Knives w/Smash climax Not all in one set, of course! In fact, I usually pack this for a LONG evening of strolling and formal close up, but rarely use the majority of this material, simply due to time constraints. But it's nice to have, especially for the occasional "magic groupie" problem. Happy New Year! Lee Darrow, C.Ht. http://www.leedarrow.com
