Hey there guys!
I'm wondering what the history behind the classic "overlap" card gimmick is. I realize there have been many routines put out over the years (such as Joshua Jay's aptly named "Overlap" DVD set), but I want to try and dig a little deeper. Anybody know anything? Thanks! -Eric |

"Another development is more clarity on the history of the gaff. There is a detailed history included in the introduction to the book, but Richard Kaufman showed me a little known trick be Theodore DeLand that may be the first modern overlap card. I credit DeLand profusely in the book, but it appears he predates himself with a very particular version of a changing packet trick…Richard also tells me he owns the only known copy in existence. Exciting stuff! Moreover, I was rereading Pallbearers Review and found overlap variants by Lin Searles and, even earlier, by Charles Jordan. These tiny but important credit refinements will be included in a future edition."
