I am just thinking that sooner or later this will take place and thought would be a good place to brainstorm on the topic.
What are some props/effects/stories that will fit into this category where you are travelling to a foreign country that doesn't speak english and you hv to travel light. Most of my routines like square circle, goofus plant etc are prop heavy and nowadays air travel is just no fun.

I do have a routine that uses a peeper puppet and a flower puppet that is about 9 min long.
The script doesn't have words and it'a about sharing your blessings and finally about sharing the love of God.

MagicBob and SuZie go to India each year to perform including in January, 2014. When we went on a missions trip one time together, we each were limited to one 50 pound suitcase. We filmed parts of our program on "Magic With A Message!", program #2, "Live on the Logos Hope." This can be viewed at http://www.ChristianMagician.org
You will notice that everything MagicBob and I do on the Logos Hope ship stage is very small as we had to take all our props on the airplane in our already packed out suit cases. Yet the audience size was very large- probably around 300. There are lots of "pack small, plays big" items on http://www.ChristianMagician.org site, many finished shows posted there, something there may help you. I posted on The Magic Café' previously the trick index to http://www.ChristianMagician.org - you can find that as well in earlier postings here. I still have at least two more hours of new unedited raw Gospel magic footage at my home that we shot in 2012, I will get around to editing some more of these routines into some more completed programs one of these days/years! I am not the greatest of editors, and it takes me forever to put together even one properly timed out show, sorry about that. |

Paper tears are always a winner. I also travel with 21st century silks (I use h*nk b**l and color change (die t**e or pal**). I also like fiber optics for its versatility. For close up, I second sponge balls, rubber bands, jumping arrow.

You may want to plan to use items you can pick up in the country as well. A roll of toilet paper can give you a five minute routine with paper over the head and newspaper tears can be prepared on site. And a full rope routine is easy to carry.

Ali Bongo's square to cross
Sponge ball routine ending with cross Harmonica to play classic gospel tunes. Though when I play with a P& W team I bring 15 different harps for a solo gig, I can get by with only One.

On the Laflin Magic website there is a book available for download.
ILLUSIONS, Illustrating Lifes Lessons Using Simple Illusions and Other Neat Stuff by David and Teesha Laflin. I think you would find this book helpful. Mike |
