On Screen And Other Mysteries - David Acer Presents Imagine you have a few people at your home for a party, when suddenly, someone asks you to do a trick. You shrug, pull out a deck, get him to choose a card, then lose it in the pack, whereupon you turn on your TV and click through some channels until you find one you like. Let's say it's a scene with a busy sidewalk. You step back, then spring the deck against the TV screen. When all the cards have fluttered to the floor, one card is seen to be sticking (back outward) to the screen! Or is it? For a man walking by in the TV Show suddenly stops, looking straight into the camera. He furrows his brow, walks up to the screen, then pulls off the card, yanking it instantly into TV land! He looks at it on both sides, showing that it is indeed the spectator's selection, then he shrugs and walks off screen! On Screen is an easy, mind-blowing showpiece that will turn your next party into a sci-fi spectacle! Plus, learn 21 more sleights and routines from the minds of David Acer and his friends, shot on tour through Europe and Canada, including: • Big Time: The magician's hand becomes an impromptu magnifying glass, enlarging the printing on chosen cards, and ultimately upsizing the entire deck! • On Bended Knee: While seated at a bar, for example, and with a wave of his hand, one coin resting on the magician's knee changes instantly into another! • The Spice Rack: A restaurant salt shaker is visibly stretched to twice its normal size! • Ultimate Aces: Michel Huot's mind-blowing kicker for MacDonald's Aces, featuring the dazzling Spring Change! • Four on the Floor: A quick and elegant production of four-of-a-kind from the demented (though not quite addled) minds of David and Richard Sanders! And so much more! Caffeine Overdose, B.J.'s Honey Cut, Acer on Equivoque, Fanfare, The Step Control, Postcards From The Dead, and the list goes on and on, plus TV clips from magic shows, comedy shows and talk shows, and hilarious guest appearances by Jay Sankey, Richard Sanders, Rick Bronson, Alain Choquette, David Kaye, Barry Julien, Patrik Kuffs, Michel Huot, Jimmy Carlo, Stéphane Bourgoin and Romaine! Anyone got it yet? I was going to buy it anyway, then I saw Kuffs name attached and clicked "order now". :-P Ordered it last night with priority shipping. Anyone have a review? I'll post mine when I receive it. Ian |

Anything by Acer has allways been good. He is a worker, and so is his material. I recognize the routines as the ones from his book called natural selections.

I like Acer stuff, but wouldn't On Screen look obvious from the digital display of the TV (if it has one)? I hope not. This sounds great.

This sounds a lot like a remake of Statica.
I read the review at http://www.sillymagician.com/statica.htm and it occurred to me that the same timing problems would exist. I'm sure the quality on the screen would be better, but that's not saying much. If it is, as it sounds, a remake of Statica, my question would be, "Why on Earth pick possibly the worst trick ever made to copy?" Read the review and description at the link above and see if it sounds familiar. |

Jeff the DVD has a lot more than Statica. The quality is also better. If you want a good method for it, PM me.

I'm kinda interested in getting this DVD, but not mainly because of the main trick highlighted in this video (the TV one) but the other tricks taught.
Any of you have it choose to do a full-fledged review?. I'm sure lots of people are interested in David Acer's offering, and whether it matches up with his brilliant 'Open Travelers' DVD. |

Thanks. Looking forward to that. I will eventually buy it, but first I would prefer to buy Road Killers and Open Traveller.

Ibd1Mon99- that was a poor review of 'statica' the cues are good and the trick drops people's jaws! Especially, if it's their TV!
To put that review on the level- let's compare: Statica - 2 thumbs down- also so did Candle through arm, Svengahli Deck, and Wunderbar (that was a hit in the 70's)- sounds like the M&M reviewers are a bit tough on good magic. Trust me 'Statica' fried everyone I showed it too. I don't believe M&M reviewers even tried the trick in the 'real world' I guess what do you expect from a 'sillymagician'.
Theater, cinemas, and literature are all better forums for telling stories or creating drama. Stand-up comedy is better for telling jokes. But magic is unique in creating the Twilight Zone sense of turning a corner and finding yourself on another street, in another town, in another country. Deception is the means to that end. –John Bannon

Russell, I didn't review the others. I didn't say that it is one of the worst effect ever, based on the opinion of another site. I simply gave that site to back up my OWN review.
I have (had) Statica, and I will say again it is HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. Even if you can get it timed perfectly, there are things beyond the magicians control that can throw off the timing. It has the distinction of the only effect I ever threw in the garbage in over 20 years. If "Statica" works for you then great. My opinion stands. "On Screen" may be something different, and if so may be something worth getting. Jeff |

On Screen is a different effect. It is actually a pretty good effect used as a comedy bit. It does not entail throwing anything against a TV screen. Just a force and it does the rest.

I have it, and don't use it for the effect; depending on the size of your tv, this may not look good at all.
That being said, the rest of teh dvd is friggin' hilarious and just fun to watch. So many good cameos in this one. Nothing too difficult, or too revolutionary, but some good things to play with.

This DVD is fantastic. I use stuff from it all the time. The 'On-Screen' effect I haven't used yet but I'm sure I will one day.
I can see where some may be concerned about screen sizes and things like that but my guess is that no one would really care about that. Spectators aren't going to start questioning the card changing size a little. If they do you just tell them that that's what happens when a card gets sucked into TV land! I think it's more of a humourous and quirky effect rather than a 'Blaine-esque', other-wordly mystery. Just roll with it, that's what I'd do anyway. It's a nice idea and the footage included is totally useable. Like I said I've never performed it but I did reherse it a few times and it looked fine to me. There is an effect on this DVD taught by Romaine, I think it's a Frank Garcia trick although I'm not sure. I forget the name but it's worth the price of the DVD. I do this every time I'm asked for a trick and only have time for one. It's very strong and totally impossible yet decidedly easy. Also, the impromptu 'boomerang' illusion is pure gold. 'On-Screen' gets my thumbs up, you won't regret it. Dave.

I love this DVD. Kuffs has a great effect and Acer teaches the pass better than anyone I've seen. So good in fact, that you'll actually start using it.
