Lee,
You are right, at least as far as my nervousness in general is concerned. What I understand from what you and Peter say is that when I'll be able to be more self-assured when I perform, I will likely get less interuptions. I also realize more and more how complex the art of magic is by reading about magic presentation theory. I started reading the book Absolute Magic by Derren Brown and I hadn't realized until now just how shallow my presentations had been so far. I also read a few articles by Eugene Burger available on the Net. His approach seems to be quite different but just as interesting. I understand better what power the performer has when it comes to audience management. Of course, applying this theory is another story but it gave me hope... mithrandir, I'm curious to hear about this patter you speak of... Paul, The only time I have performed for strangers, the group dynamic was different because there were only 4 specs. They gave me trouble, going as far as trying to grab my props after the effect. I have already noticed a HUGE difference in group dynamic between group sizes. They have to be handled very differently. I'm sure that performing for people who know me isn't helping either. All that to say that what I have read here and on other similar topics on this forum plus my discovery of the "magic theory", has made me realize just how many factors come into play when dealing with audience management. I guess the good news is that I learn from my mistakes and misconceptions and that you all helped me by showing me the path... I now have a renewed enthusiasm because, although I haven't mastered it, I can see that the power to create a performance the way I want it to be is within my reach... Given a lifetime... Richard

Well if you've only performed once for strangers...I'd say most of the problem right there! Once someone has seen enough magic from you, they are going to act differently than a stranger, or even someone you know, but does not know your magic!
