So I've recently decided that I want to turn the one room in the house that I have control over into a saloon type atmosphere (although I think the classic swinging saloon doors are out of the question). Anyone have suggestions on what type of gambling games/tables I should get to put in there? Not a very big space, but open to all ideas that you all suggest.
Thanks! |

For the table, the minimum is this: http://411buyitnow.com/blog/wp-content/u......able.jpg
I could accept this one as well: http://www.vegasslotdistributing.com/pok......ular.jpg |

If you want good suggestions, you'll have to provide more details. The type of table you want will heavily depend on how many players you plan on hosting, whether or not there would be a stationary dealer, whether you'd be raking the game or not, what kind of space you have.

Well, we're kidding you but it's because you are not very accurate. It can be very expensive to set up a nice place! So many factors are involved. Just one example, the chips you're gonna use. Of course you need custom ones to avoid cheating and have some control. What quality, how many, will the manufacturer allow you small order or only hundreds? Often people are surprise how many chips you need to run a 9 players game properly, on a long run.
Are you gonna allow guys to drink? Stupid ### can destroy a mat in just a few hours of play, not paying attention. How do you plan to secure the cash? Don't you think a camera would be useful? Etc. It can cost just a few hundreds $, but it can reach tremendous money too... |

MVFAN - good call on the faro table. I will have to look into maybe making a custom one.
splice - it's a small bedroom (maybe 10'x12') so I won't be able to fit all the saloon fixin's in there. Most likely looking for a multi purpose table (one that several different types of games can be played on). Based on this I will most likely be going for a woodend round table that could fit up to 6 people...usually not a stationary dealer at my home poker games so I won't be neededing any kind of specialty table. Bluesman - if this come to frution I will post some picks. AMcD - Currently can't spend too much (saving up for a wedding and all that fun stuff). However, I feel I can get the saloon-type vibe I am looking for. Maybe a table for poker/liars dice/etc. Add a dart board and maybe a small wooded shelf to place drinks on when playing darts? stoneunhinged - Man cave is a room in the house (usually basement/garage/spare room) where the woman allows the men to actually set it up however he wants...she usually gets the rest of the house lol |

Sounds like a pretty small space to fit everything. Given a rotating deal (and fewer than 9 players), round or octogonal is the best option. No rake, so no need for a drop slot or anything, so you can go with a standard round table. A round table for 6 players would be about 4'x4'. Figure another 3-4 feet for seat space and you're at about 8'x8' total for the table & seats. If you want a dart board in there as well, you're likely going to need folding legs on the table to take it out of the way.
If you really want a saloon style room, probably simple plastic chips work. I hate them with a passion myself; they don't stack well, the sound is bah, and they're much too light. However, if you want better chips, you'll most likely be laying out 3 figures, and if you're not in the US, shipping will be very expensive (most of the good chip stores are US based). I'm in Canada, and the shipping costs for my 750 chip set was about 20% of my total cost. Remember customs and duties charges as well. One thing to consider is what kind of games you want to be running. Will you be running tournaments only? Cash games only? Both? This will affect your chip choice. You don't often use the same denominations of chips in tournaments as in cash games. For tournaments, you'll usually want $25, $100, $500, $1000 chips (standard WSOP denoms without the bigger chips given the small size of your game). Cash will depend on what the blinds are, but small stakes games are usually $0.25/$0.50 or so, which means $0.25, $1 and $5 chips. Some people go smaller with penny and nickel chips but these are harder to find in a denominated set. If you want to run both types of games, you'll probably be better off with a set of NCV (no cash value printed on chip) chips, but people will need to remember what each colour is worth. Anyway, if you need more advice, feel free to ask or PM. I've spent a good amount of time researching this stuff when I was setting up my small poker room. |

Thanks for the advice splice. I already have some NCV chips from a poker set...but not very many (and not the best quality) so I may look into getting some more. I will most likely doing only Cash games, as usually it is only myself and small group of friends who enjoy playing. Do you know if there is a standard distance for standing away from the dart borad? Or is that more of a "house rules" kind of thing? I'm sure I will be asking for more opinions/advice as I work on getting this together.

So many people can't believe what they see when they come into my common gaming house because it feels as if they've slipped through a portal in time, leaving all the clutter, congestion and confusion of contemporary civilisation behind. Sweetly reminiscent of the good old day's.
