I'm against the 'bashing' of magicians (a thread from 2006) in principle and in accordance with Café rules; but a recent editorial in Genii from R. Kaufman has me thinking ill of Criss Angel. All kinds of magic are OK with me; meaning even though I don't care for it, I wont complain. Geek magic (spike through hand), levitations even using camera tricks, stooges, cheating death by drowning, impalings, etc... no big deal! Some of the big show stuff can lead others to close-up.
But raising the dead? Somehow this disturbed me more than 'paranormals' who talk to the dead. Houdini spent considerable energy exposing those who claimed seance with the dead; and it hurt him to think that such people could play on his desire to see his mother once more. I really enjoyed Blaine's last special. I don't care for his geek stuff, but no big deal. I've also seen him reveal ashes on his arm, naming someone who'd passed away... didn't like that. But I always considered it some kind of magic! Go ahead and raise a fly from the dead (google that trick up)... But the idea that you can raise a human corpse from the dead ... no... bad idea... don't try this at home. Lynn |

One the best magic acts I ever seen was one of Frankenstein creating the monster - Simon Drake as I recall.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

On the other hand, I have many friends and relatives who are deceased; and would not want them dug up and revived, as much as I love them. Perhaps Criss Angel's raising the dead might play better as a monster movie. Lynn |

It was a better magic act than the movie.
I am not a fan of Mr Angel and I haven't seen the act of which you speak and so I don't know.
