I should be getting it today or tomorrow in the mail.
Once I do, I'll play with a little and get back to y'all.

Just got my hands on mine.
Right out of the box, let me just say that if Burling Hall had a coupon book, it'd look like this. Will be watching the DVD on my break. Also, I heard that JStone has a review somewhere around here, so check his out.

Was able to watch the DVD today and will say it's straight and to the point.
There's an alternative handling to use with two spectators, but I think I'll just use the main method. The actual coupon book is well printed & looks like those Entertainment coupon books kids sell for school fundraisers. It's size is not bigger than a deck of cards and fits well in any pocket. Definitely will keep this on me!

I have this too. It's ok, but it could have been better. For one, it is only good for one performance. It could have been designed for two or perhaps even three performances.
One more potential problem: Many of the stores in the coupon book are meant to look like a well known business, but have been altered a bit. For example, Burger King is Burger Queen, Barnes & Noble is Barnie & Mobie, IHOP is IBOP. The problem with this is I am showing them that all the coupons are different, and asking them to make a good mental note of the name, logo, and amount of the coupon. When people see a fake name, they instantly know this isn't a real coupon book. When I was practicing my performance with a few people, out of the first five people, two picked up on that and one immediately knew it wasn't real anymore. The problem is in the presentation, you are asking them to look closely at the coupon, but you really can't have them look too closely at the coupon when you are showing them how different all the coupons are. I have worked around the problem using timing, i.e. spending more time on a coupon that doesn't look like a well known store and just skimming past the well known stores. However, they could have designed them to look more like individual neighborhood stores and avoid national chain stores. This means it is probably not ideal for a walk-around environment. I think a much stronger mind-reading effect would be where they draw something on a business card and you are able to duplicate their drawing. Penguin Magic has something called The Magic Wallet for only $10. It works perfectly for this routine. With this wallet routine, there is little problem repeating the effect a few times. It is also a great way to give out a business card or exchange business cards with someone. And, you don't HAVE to use business cards. You could use any small card. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 4. KJ |

1KJ,
I really don't foresee the modified brand names being an issue. As you're flipping the pages, I believe seeing familiar logos flash by help sell the effect. If you wanna pause on a coupon, just make it a chain that's not where you live and mention something about it being on the other coast or up north (I'm in FL, so either direction would work for me if I chose to go that route.) Also, on the front cover, there's 4 little circles, one of each color of the coupons in the book. For example, the green circle is a plane which would be travel & red has a plate with fork which would be food; also they're labelled as such. A spectator will probably see those symbols and assume that the corresponding color in the coupon book applies to those characteristics. That also helps sell the legitimacy of the coupon book I feel. As far as their "selected" coupon for them to concentrate, I will admit it's a bit off as far as being someplace some one will go. I do like the psychology behind the info they (SansMinds) placed on the "selected" coupon for the hot reading that you can give. In the meantime, I actually give this a 9 out of 10. Those of you who wish to see this in action, I'll be performing it twice a week at Pop's Chicken...

Matt,
I agree there is a workaround to the recognizable names. I still don't know why they didn't include 2 or 3 force cards instead of just one. For me, the gimmick is just too confining. If I'm going to carry around something like this, taking up valuable pocket space, I want it to be more versatile. KJ |

KJ,
When I first pulled the coupon book out (pre DVD watch), I was actually expecting to see a different force per color (making it 4) and that each force would correspond to the symbol on the front. But it's still overall a nice little prop. It's only as big as a deck of cards, perhaps thinner. Shouldn't take up too much space. Matt

John C,
I think it pretty much lived up to what was promised: I have a coupon book with various kinds of coupons from around here. Let's try something; as I riffle thru the pages, stick your finger in anywhere on one of the pages. Thanks. After I turn away, look at the coupon your finger is on and take in whatever you an about it. Great. Let's close the book up and set it aside. (Note, the rest of the book is riffled closed to quickly flash other coupons.) Now concentrate on your coupon... The reveal is up to your presentation skills; however, Herman on the DVD outlines the best way to reveal the information bit by bit (in hot reading fashion). His suggestion is the value of the coupon, what the place is, and finally what coupon is mainly for. I would also like to say that this is great for magicians who are looking to add a little mental magic to their repertoire as opposed to those who are strictly mentalists. And as I've said earlier, if Burling Hull owned a coupon book, he'd have this, haha. [History buffs should like that joke!] Matt

Matt,
I agree, it's not bad. Could have been better. KJ |
