Just spotted this one at ementalism: http://www.ementalism.com/collections/ne......e-jermay
The story deck is a classic demonstration in card magic. It has stood the test of time. From the famous Sam The Bellhop (brought to life by Bill Malone's rendition) to story decks from memorized stacks, the plot has become a classic, yet underused idea in magic. Unlike other story decks though, Luke Jermay doesn't just provide a story. Here he provides new concepts. He provides all the insight into presenting the story deck to a modern audience. Including fresh new presentational points, a presentation especially designed for mentalists and a new approach to shuffling the deck during the story being told. This is a new way to tell a story with a normal deck of playing cards. This is a professional routine perfect for the performer looking for a highly entertaining, novel and audience-tested addition to their shows; whether they be presented from a stage, in walkaround or just for friends and family. 54 pages. Any reviews? I am a big fan of Luke Jermay. |

I recently bought "The Story Deck" by Jermay. There was a paperback available for a while, but it's nice there's an e-version now available for those of us that came to the party too late for the physical version.
I'm not usually a performer of story decks, I'll say that right up front. I've tried Sam the Bellhop off-and-on over the years, but it just doesn't mesh with my style. I like this one, though. There's casual shuffling during the story, there's no far-too-convenient runs of cards or things like poker hands, and it really can be made to feel like an impromptu, on-the-fly story. Jermay's thoughts on various motivations for the effect, approach, and presentation are great (as one would expect.) Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. I've done the story half a dozen times now, and I imagine I'll be using it much more. I use the "Story Deck for Mentalists" method he notes later in the book which not only provides a very nice way to introduce the concept, but also does away with the one part of the story I wasn't as keen on. |

I just finished reading this and I must say that I, too, enjoyed & will adopt Luke's handling of the stoty deck.
I never did a story deck but have researched others. Luke's seems to be a 'just-right' fit for my personality & needs. Glad I bought it! |
