I think I'd LOVE Vancouver! I've been there (1971). Are people really that happy there? Maine is SO depressing. Bunch of haters/complainers here. Drags ya down...

I like Vancouver. Went there when I was a kid, then again for the Spring '99 North American Bridge Championships. On the other hand, my best friend from high school has lived in Albion, Maine for about 20 years, and he loves it there.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

This is where I was born (well, nearby here) and will likely end up back there before too long:

Great thread. I was wandering around the land supporting myself as a busker when I visited and fell in love with Salida Colorado. Planted my roots here last year and am now active with Salida Circus as well as a board member of Stage Left Theatre.
Last year I co-wrote and directed Salida Circus - Magic in the Mountains. Here is the video tribute to Salida that I created for the opener: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82Rka4hB8ss&feature=youtu.be I used video projected backgrounds for the show and it was fun to watch my stuff on a full sized theatrical movie screen. We are re-vamping the show for future performances, and I am bringing magic to the circus in a big way. But the main point is, I love this little arts town in the heart of the Rockies and will be here for a very long time. |

I've lived all over the USA. I lived in Europe for two years. I go into downtown Augusta, and find the saddest, most miserable people! Everyone is broke. The industry dried up years ago. State House workers all live out of town. The homeless shelter is overflowing. The only people who LIVE in this city are the poorest, most destitute. people! I still try and project a happy attitude. I do get tired of, "What's HE got to be so happy about?" I'll tell ya: I'm healthy. I have no debt. I'm retired with a VA pension. I have no wife/kids. Never have. I don't worry about crime. Nobody has anything to STEAL! I really have no problems at all. Knock on wood... I do wish I could find ONE happy person in this city. Doug |

Weird, I posted a link to the live version of that song and it disappeared...
Anyway, here's a parody of the song I posted only this one is about Vancouver (Washington, because 'Murica) and not Portland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwCkZiEQ7A
