At my SAM assembly this past week, a mentor of mine who only really speaks with me at the assembly, I have no contact information for him.. Showed him his wand. (mind, I've only been to 2 assemblies now) and his wand was 2 toned.. silver and sold colored (I suppose chrome..). and it was collapsible. Instead of screwing together like most I've seen, it has a spring to where when he took it out of the felt pouch, it just springs up in to full size. Its PERFECT for carrying in pocket and really has a nice size once its out of the felt. He had to go before I could ask him where he got it.. So, essentially, who makes wands like that? In general, who makes the best wands out there?
Any insight is well appreciated. Thanks! |

That's a new one on me. There are really two questions here though, so in response to the second, there are a lot of vine wands available. Two piece screw together ones, kind of like a pool cue. One piece ones, Wands made from fine woods, metal, plastics that look like ivory, etc. David Roth, and others, suggests using a chop stick and these can be found in all kinds of different looks. The important thing is to know what the wand is for and to pick one that fits your persona/character. For example, if you were to do a wizard character, a roughly shaped wooden stick that hand been sanded down and polished might be the thing. A mad scientist character might use a metal one with a high tech look. Decide what look you want to present and then make the wand fit that look. I hope this helps.

I purchased IET from Ebay recently. The order came from China and in the package was a collapsible wand which I did not order or pay for. It is black and chrome and is spriral wound. Collapsed it is about 1.5" long. Take off the elastic band that comes around it, and it springs out instantly to about 18"

There are also a lot of gag wands that can add a comedy interlude to family/children's shows. There is of course the long standing--pun intended--breakaway wand. There is also the rising wand which can be used for a great gag instead of it's intended purpose. How about the "limp noodle" wand? Held one way it remains rigid and straight. Held the other was it is limp and floppy. Also, the multiplying and color changing wands can be used for comedy effect. If you decide to implement any of these gags you would probably want the standard black wand with white tips since they are all designed to look like this to be interchanged. Still, go for what fits your persona.

I'm not looking for any sorts of comedy wands or gaffs, I simply want to know who makes high quality wands like that. Metal, made with quality. Not something that's plastic or limp, thank you though

I believe I have what you are describing but I bought it such a long time ago, I can't remember where I got it.
I could only suggest try searching "Penguin Magic " or Google websites but instead of using the word "wand" try "cane metal appearing"

Oh understood. I was just making suggestions. There is a lot of entertainment value in wands. If you are looking for just a specific one for use say in cups and balls, then happy hunting.

They have a lot to chose from including wands by Joe Porper ($120 and up!). But the one shown in the video isn't what Zephury is describing. It is more like an appearing cane only shorter.
