Last night I was shown a fairly simple trick where 5 coins were placed in a spectator's hand and when the 5th one was placed there the spectator quickly closed their hand. On opening their hand they only had 4 coins in their hand and then magician still had one coin in their hand. This can be done with any number of coins of any denomination as long as all the same denomination coins are used each time. I was shown how to do it and have already practiced it on spectators today but just wondered what the name of the effect was or where it is written up - maybe Bobo?

I saw it first on Michael Ammar's Introduction to Coin Magic.
It's also written up in Harry Lorayne's Magic Book. I can't remember if either gave credit, or if it's just a really old principle. It's not in Bobo. |

Thank you David - I pulled out my copy of Michael Ammar's DVD and there it was - I really have to spend more time going through the DVDs that I own!

I believe it is called Seven Pennies by Terry Lynn - or at least one version I'm thinking of is called that. Michael Weber has a similar version out - I think in his 2012 Blackpool lecture notes - called Sevin.
Is that what you were thinking of Ed? Jim |

Thanks Jim - it looks like it must be. I just did a quick Google search on those and they seem to be the same trick. It is the exact effect in Michael Ammar's Introduction to Coin Magic.
