I watch every year...big fan of the show. Any thoughts this year? Ripoffs? People you were glad to see win? Speeches you loved or hated?
There are many movies I have yet to see from the major award nominees, including Philomena, Dallas Buyers Club, and 12 Years a Slave. However, I did see Nebraska, The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, Gravity, and August: Osage County. I thought Gravity was good but overrated, and I wouldn't have gone with Cuaron for Best Director. Best Cinematography was reasonable for it, but I thought the black and white Atmospheric look of Nebraska at the very least gave it a run for the money. A little surprised to see American Hustle and Nebraska shut out, but it was a great year for acting and movies, IMO (and I haven't even seen some of the best, yet).

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

I just saw the other night "Captain Phillips," the movie about the Somali pirates boarding a USA freighter. The lead pirate is up for best supporting Oscar, and he had no acting experience. He and his friends (who are all very good in the movie) answered a casting call, prepared the parts they were to read together, and they got the parts, so IIRC, each of the main pirate actors knew each other. He was quoted as saying how fun it would be to do a scene with the Forrest Gump guy
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Haven't watched it since the 70's.
Did last night to see Ellen's opening bits and stuck with it & was entertained. That show needs an editor though. |

My wife and I stopped taking the Oscars seriously after the film Ghandi won for Best Costume Design.

I stopped watching when Carson wasn't the host anymore. I also got tired of all the long winded moronic acceptance speeches and the idea that a special group of people gets to decide what's best and what's not. Maybe the fans should be the deciding factor in awarding the Oscars and other such awards.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |
