No offense, but I fear for the world if one day escape artists would start becoming criminals and abusing their own abilities to commit crimes and being able to break out of any bonds that the police may put them in.

I see no reason to fear talented performers who have a need for a solid reputation, built on morals and integrity.
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.

Considering the relatively small number of escape artists out there, I'd be more concerned with people trained in the martial arts or the use of firearms turning "bad". There's a lot more of them out there!!

It is an interesting concept that because someone is a “professional’ that they are immune from human foibles. It is also interesting that one would believe that escape artists are not already incarcerated within various institutions. Finally it is interesting to believe that an escape artiest would pose any real threat to a maintaining facility.
Humans commit crimes regardless of their station in life, their educational background, or religious affiliation. The number of doctors, lawyers, CPA’s, Pastors, Priests, truck drivers, dry wall hangers, painters, fathers, mothers, and so forth that have been found guilty and incarcerated attests this to. Performers (including escape artists) are not exempt from the entire spectrum of behavior. Truth be told, there are individuals already incarcerated for some felony or another that have “escape artist” skills. Interestingly, the Maryland Division of Corrections even has a training film showing an inmate escaping from all of the standard restraints used within the Division. This inmate was an escape artist prior to committing his crimes. So far he has not successfully escaped from secure confinement (I doubt if he has tried). He has and does show off his skills in getting out of restraints. His skills caused the Division to change some of their procedures. There are literally hundreds of very skilled locksmiths incarcerated across the USA. Many of them are actually used within the institutions to repair locks. They don’t seem to pose much of an escape risk.

I agree with Harry,
Let's face it folks... any escapist can and will be prevented by escaping given the right equipment, watchful staff, and the conditions they must try to escape under not being of thier own control at all. What we do is a performing art and should not be confused with 'going over the wall". And this admission is coming from a guy that frequently gets out of jail and prison cells! Ha ha.
