I want to share with you guys an idea for a new kind of magic show that I've been dreaming about. Let me tell you about it in detail, then I'd like you to tell me if my idea is unique, and if you know of anybody who is doing something similar.
In my heart I feel like I'll be offering something totally unique, but let's just consider this post part of my research or "doing my homework", as they say.
Let me start by saying that magic is not my only talent. I have been blessed with MULTIPLE talents. What I want to offer to churches is a variety of entertainment. Perhaps for their family nights or other similar get togethers.
My idea is to combine my various talents in a sort of kaleidoscopic way, where every time they invite me back, they will never know what to expect next.
One time I could offer them a pure magic show, then maybe next time they would get a guitar concert.
Then perhaps after that they would get a vent show.
Or I might start off the show with vent, then go into magic or guitar playing to end the show. Then next time, they might get Christian stand up comedy, followed by magic, then cartoon voice impersonations, then maybe end with a chalk-talk.
My biggest idea involves my paintings. I have dozens of paintings I have done. I'm creating my own "art gallery", so to speak. Well, I also have this touching song called "The Brush", which tells about my life being a canvas, and I started painting on the canvas. But the colors kept running, and the objects were all out of proportion. I had made a mess of the painting. But as the lyrics go on, I give the brush back to Jesus, and he lovingly makes my painting beautiful and signs it "The Price Has Been Paid" when I give him back the brush of my will.
Well, my idea is to set up dozens of these beautiful paintings around the alter and such to illustrate the song as I sing it.
Then after that, I could segue into my magic show or other talents.
As I said, I'm trying to offer churches something totally unique and different that no one else is offering.
What do you guys think? Do you think it's workable and viable? Do you know of any one else who is offering something similar?

Luke 14:23 Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
I think a variety of talents and gifts shows the congregation that whatever talents we have, we can use them for the glory of God. I like the idea, but I think some churches would only want one show or the other. If this is from God, He will bless it. I would love to see this live. It sounds very interesting. Also, a verse that all performers should stick in their memory banks is Colossians 3:17 "Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father." In His Service, Craig

I have seen such variety shows. Their are several different troupes who travel globally. However, I am not sure they include magic.
Based on their idea's I have thought about putting such a variety show together displaying the talents of several different people. Such as dancers, comedy skits, magicians, puppetry/ventriloquism, stunts, music/singing, etc. Having a 2 hour show with a 10-15 minute intermission. Each act ranging from 5 minutes to 15 minutes long. At the end of the show, each performer gives their brief testimony.
Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.

I think each show needs to be advertised for what it is. If I came to a magic show and then next month come back to see you again and you are playing a guitar I may be disappointed. Make sure the audience knows what is coming.

I agree. Of course, when I was setting up the show, be it on the phone or in person. I would let them know what I have to offer. Perhaps brochures would be the way to go. Anyway, the person bringing me in to perform for their event would be totally cognizant of what they will be getting, having made the choice to bring me in, and having pre-approved my itinerary way prior to show date.

This topic does bright out the similarities between all of the performance arts. Each one, whether painting, music, or magic can be used to encourage, educate, or edify the body of Christ. I had been ruminating an idea on a much smaller scale of music, magic, and short skits.
Keep us posting whether or not you do this and what it ended up becoming.

I appreciate that brother. I like to think of myself as a one man, walking, talking Ed Sullivan show.
The only thing I don't do is dance. Well, actually, not true, because I don't juggle either. Been playing the guitar since the late 60's. Someday I'd like to learn sax and drums, too. My cartoon voices ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDpSHb-XY......a_player ) always get people going and always get a great reaction.

I really like the paintings and your song.
I think the strongest thing we share is our true testimony Will check out your link. I love folks that play around with music voice and sounds. I did listen-watch the video of Bugs Bunny. That would be impressive to do those type of impressions. Chris Rice has a fun song called Cartoons or something like that. Asking and answering question shay if cartoon characters got saved. Yogi Bear, Smurfs, Fred Flinstone etc. Blessings live and prayers. Harris

At the FCM International in Nashville last year Patti Beth Anderson, “Willamae” lectured on "becoming your own competition". For that occasion when the client asks what else do you do, or do you know someone that??? Once you have built a relationship it can make it easier to offer other services.
Keep up the creative thinking.

Becoming your own competition! What a concept! It sounds really intriguing! Could you elaborate with more juicy details on the subject?

It's along the lines of what vents and character actors and comedians do in creating the life/backstory for their characters. Then offering another show based on the additional character/family member. You would be taking it a step further by offering a variety of arts.

"Do you want the "All in the Family" show or the "Maude" or "The Jeffersons" show?"

None of those. I'm thinking more along the lines of Mr..Ed or Gilligan's Island.
